I find it a great shame, only really from the point that really, we still use them, even though you swear you dont. Many a time I have bought a game online only to find a mate is coming round and a controller has just broken or I am short a controller or similar - What do I do ? order online and wait days or go to the shops and get 1 quickly

Yeah there over priced and the market is flooded with preowned stuf, but the convienience really helped me a lot through the years and I will feel sad to see them go regardless that there over priced

At the end they provided a service and I for one used it

Anyway - no flame war here please - and any sale stuff of interest put it here

Just bought Knights of the Old Republic 2 Collectors with statue and DLC for 49 GBP, down from 135GBP - Bargain

Yesterday I bought Skyrm collectors for the same price

Its sad to see retail killing itself slowfully and painfully, but in the end of the day its GAME's fault.

They ended up killing and consuming their competition, and an industry without competition, eventually leads to stagnation, and then finally death.

The supermarkets will pick up those remains, that zombified shell, and attach it to their stores to draw in as many types of customers as they can.
(They can afford to sell less product, since getting people in the store in the first place is their main priority)

Totally agree, I never got tangled in the "buy a game, sell the game as pre-owned and buy another new game" scenario, but a lot of people did

So there is Game now with tons of stock pre-owned selling at dirt cheap prices

Obviously needed to generate income for new stock they cant get from EA and Capcom

I still hope they sell Game in Spain - give it to Gamestop and bolster the UK market - as I do like the convieniance of the store still
i rarely buy games in stores anymore not only it cost a lot to get to the shop and most games i only can buy at 1 shop there and they know it.
I wouldn't be suprised if vulture chains like CEX were now hovering around and picking at all the remaining stock they can get their hands on.

(I mean, well all know thats where they get their stuff from. From people and other stores old stock they can't shift. This is like an open buffet for them!)
one day all will be download

Yeah very good point - if in the UK Game do go and currently it seems that way, The stock may get picked up by 3rd parties - in my Town most will go to HMV stores for the emergency stuff or Argos.

I used them for convienience as stated at the start of the thread - Even I buy online mostly. But its sad to see so many stores closing and precincts / Malls having space with shutters down.

Who wants that ?

I dont, but Game made the mistakes and now are paying for it - that cant be denied.

Anybody bought any bargains in the sale they wish to share ? (see start of thread)

The thing I don't get with Game is why they feel / felt the need to have multiple stores in the same area. My local big shopping centre is Southampton, and I think there are 3 or 4 Game stores in the city centre, plus a Gamestation. Surely this is an unnecessary expense?
problem with with shops is that they have limitid space to stock there games so some games you want to buy because it is limitid that it sells

Exactly true - Why the need - I guess its one of the things the Directors are discussing as they closed 35 stores late last year

We have a Game and a Game Station in our precinct, and its the same company so it makes no sence for a small town.

I always went to Game not Gamestation as the bigger shop had the better layout.

But a lesson learnt is to trim the fat so expect changes there unless the administrators get there first

True for certain shops I guess, especially our towns Gamestation, but Game in our town is larger and well spaced - I saw the writing on the wall when PC games diminished to 1 display stand with PS3 taking up 1 whole side of a shop.

Then after that Pre-Owned took up the whole centre of the shop

Shame really

You should see my (somewhat) local GameStop. It is a relatively large store, with ½ wall dedicated to Wii games, ½ wall dedicated to PS2 games, one wall dedicated to Xbox 360 games, one wall-sized center section dedicated to PS3 games, 3 wall-sized center section dedicated to used games, 1 stand dedicated to PC games, out of which 95% is WOW, and the last 5% is an unsold copy of Gothic 4: Collector's edition. Or at least that was how it was when I went there last time, which was Jan, last year.

Sad but true
There are high street stores that sell PC games?

/runs out to see if the moon is blue, oh no its just the aurora borealis

Yonks since I bought a physical copy of a game in a shop. Shortly after that I stopped buying physical copies period. To be fair that because they all switched over to consoles with fewer and fewer PC titles on the shelves (sorry shelf, sorry part of shelf).

Its funny, really, when I started buying Amiga games it was all new and you got one or two new titles a month turning up. That accelerated till they were filling the stores with them (and that rip-off Atira, Atria, Aitra, whatever it was called), then PC games took off and they started pushing the Amiga games out. Then it was the PC games turn to get sand kicked in their face.

To me digital distribution is the saviour of my PC gaming habit - I'd actually have to do something drastic like "get a life" if I couldn't get my fix through downloads.
And so it begins
