TheEnigmaticT: Currently, we treat the front page as a place to post important news. News along the importance of "Your sister is getting married!" always ends up there. Social media is where we have a side channel, if you will, for less important things. If you never visit the forums, never visit any of our social media sites, and only visit our front page once a week, you will never miss out on any news of import. Meanwhile, I've already stated I'm looking into what we can do to post news to our community here as well as our social media communities.

Making an announcement about the lack of an event seems a little silly. We already get enough guff for our reputation for announcing that we will be having an announcement later. :P
That's because announcing you have an announcement is rather inane "We have an announcement coming soon." If you expand it i.e "We will be announcing a new publisher soon" then it whets people's appetites and interests them instead of being inane. In this case I don't see why it didn't warrant posting on the main page as I'm sure I've seen similar posted on the main page in the past when weekend promos have been off.

If the announcement is something you feel is sufficient enough to tease & get the community excited then by all means word it along the lines of " Sorry there's no weekend promo this weekend but we have something special coming next week. Weekend Promos will start again from next weekend" If it's not something that the majority will be excited about then just keep it to yourselves until the day and then post it (minor publishers with only a few games for instance would be a nice surprise to find on release day rather than building it up & disappointing people who thought it was something bigger. Like the Team 17 situation; that was handled well.)

GOG.com is in a rather unique position amongst digital games stores in that GoG comes across as much a fan site as it does a digital store and a lot of people purchase here over other sites because gog.com has personality rather than being another generic DD site. You can pat yourselves on the back for maintaining that image so far.

Runehamster: We need TIME to get excited, dammit! :D
How much things have changed... lazy bastard younglings.

Back in MY day, goglodytes would be frothing like rabid dogs, sparing no time or energy in the search for a meaning, mere minutes after an incredibly vague Twitter comment appeared from GOGcom.
