I know 2012 has just started and we've recently come out of a great GOG sale but I wondered if these would be returning and if so, when? I hope GOG is going to keep doing them as quite a few of the games I were unsure about were purchased during these deals.

serpantino:
From GOG's Facebook page: "No Weekend Promo this time, but get ready for some really big news next week on GOG.com ;)"

So it seems like maybe next week, plus something really big.
And this is one of the reasons why such news should be on GOG not somewhere else.

I am agree.

And yet look, here you are on GOG.com, and here the news is. ;)
Let the speculation begin! One more publisher???

The speculation already started earlier ;)

1. Tell this serpantino who does feel uninformed.
2. Not every person is lurking into forum.
3. Do you prefer to hear "hey, your sister is going to get married!" from your co-worker instead from her herself or from other member of your family? Do you feel this difference?

Currently, we treat the front page as a place to post important news. News along the importance of "Your sister is getting married!" always ends up there. Social media is where we have a side channel, if you will, for less important things. If you never visit the forums, never visit any of our social media sites, and only visit our front page once a week, you will never miss out on any news of import. Meanwhile, I've already stated I'm looking into what we can do to post news to our community here as well as our social media communities.

Making an announcement about the lack of an event seems a little silly. We already get enough guff for our reputation for announcing that we will be having an announcement later. :P

To be fair to GOG, they could just do what other distributors do and pretend the community doesn't exist. If you care enough to know all the little tidbits about GOG, add the darn twitter account to your feed or bookmark it in your browser. I find out everything I want to know just by checking the forums here now and then.

That's because you didn't announce the announcement of an announcement! We need TIME to get excited, dammit! :D

Unless, of course, the event is expected.

Proposition of forum sticky from the other topic is acceptable one.

It's not "lack of an event", more like "lack of an event because" for me.
Also if GOG.com is "world wide known" to have weekend promos then users can have a feeling and right to be confused. And that should be avoided to have healthy community. :)
"We heard you like announcements, so we put an announcement in your announcement... " ;p

A little "ticker" along the top of the forums would be nice for small stuff like this. Maybe stream your twitter feed on it or something...

And you'd be done.
Yes, I remember you do not want to run foreign JavaScript code on your page, but I'm convinced that your web developers could create their own widget rather fast by browsing Twitter's own and I doubt that the core functionality would change frequently.
