Zellio2009: So I bought an Xbox 360. I've wanted one for a while, but was afraid of the wonderful issue of RROD.
I bought the Xbox 360 Arcade unti, hoping for Jasper, although the Jasper units could still have RROD :\
I almost bought a 360 Fall of '06 but instead put the money into the balance I owed on my cc for the earlier that year purchase of a laptop that I game on when I can't sit at the desktop machine. I feel it was a good decision too as I've gotten hours and hours of game time on that 17" laptop/desktop replacement machine. I'm still using it too although Fallout 3 sucks on it. For my particular situation I'm pleased to have both a desktop and a laptop I can game on.
I have the original XBOX and did enjoy it but IMO not enough to justify buying it. It's collecting dust now in a box. Craiglist maybe???
I did take the plunge into the current gen console a month ago. I got a Wii of all things, for my 52nd birthday. I played on a friend's Wii and another friend has one and although she's a big computer gamer she loves her Wii. Although I'm still in the honeymoon phase of ownership I'm enjoying the Wii a lot. More even that I thought I would! It's a completely different ballgame for me though than past consoles. I'm lovin' the Wii Sports, Wii Play and the Wii Fit with the board. It is surpisingly fun and addictive.
I also am really enjoying Mario Kart. I played it a long time ago, also play it on my DS (I love that platform and play daily on it, various titles) and the hubby will race with me. Two adults in their 50s laughing, yelling, putting each other down, with plastic driving wheels in their hands. If anyone looks in the living room of our house they'd certify us I'm sure. But heck, it IS fun. Yeah, I downloaded Super Mario Bros. so I could relive my NES days, and even splurged for the controller cuz I think I may enjoy a few other older VC games.
I doubt I'll ever play any "hardcore" games on the Wii but that's not why I bought it. I play those on my computer. No, I'll most likely pick up Wii Sports Resort at some point soon, with the add-on motion sensors. I may also buy the new Wii Fit in the Fall. And certainly will pick up the new Zelda when it comes out hopefully this holiday season. Heck, might even get some form of Guitar Hero or Rockband!
Enjoy the 360. Ignore the naysayers here, a lot of the comments struck me as immature and/or full of envy. Now that I bought the Wii I won't be getting any more console equipment other than the add on motion sensors, possibly, for the Wii. The 360 is a good console IMO and everyone I know that has one enjoys it thoroughly. Although I agree with someone here who said that why play a game on the 360 when you can play it on the computer but I also can understand wanting to be able to game in front of the TV rather than the desk and a computer screen. But possibly these are PC gamer snob things to say :) And FWIW, my sister and her family have a 360 and love it although not a one of them plays anything more than solitaire on their computers. Have fun and grats on the new purchase!
