It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Lol, there are giveaways ?

Welcome!
Welcome! :D

Basically, the concept is that GOG finds the rights-holders to good games, especially (but not limited to) older games that might be out of print, negotiates rights to sell the games, applies all the latest patches and fixes them up so that they work beautifully on modern machines, and sells them on this website.

What you get when you buy a game is a self-contained installer which you can download and run to install your game onto your computer without the need for any special client. You also get all sorts of extras - soundtracks, wallpapers, manuals and so on. The nice thing about GOG installers is that they are DRM-free, meaning that they don't require any kind of Internet access or activation of any kind, so you can keep them as backups or store them on a USB stick and put them on a computer that doesn't have Internet access at all and it will still work. You can download your games from your account as often as you want from any computer.

There is no client needed to play or download games. You can download games through your web browsers, but GOG have also made a very nice optional downloader app which is quite convenient to use.

As for trading - usually when you buy games they get added directly onto your account, but there is a checkbox on the shopping cart which you can check to get a gift code instead. Gift codes are the only way right now to trade GOG games.

There are a lot of friendly people here so feel free to ask if you have any more questions :)

Dont buy Sacrifice, never mind how much someone here will cajole you and if someone gifts it to you, send it back, its absolute shite.

/sarcasm off, its great really, welcome to gog :)
I think I confused him when I gifted him 8 games. I spent so much money on them
Couple things of note:

1) The GOG downloader allows you to download games and pause/resume them as you please (similar to the Steam client). The difference is that you are downloading a self-containing install file that has the game's info in it's entirity. Run it to install the program, put it on a backup disk and store it, or whatever you want. It is truly DRM free, so you can play, install, transport it, or anything else without need for anything else.

2)Some games have patches. Be sure to check the download contents for patches.

3)If you have issues with a game, feature, etc, check that game's forums. Often there are resolutions for the issues located in there.

4)Giveaways- people give away games a lot. If you want to give a game away yourself, feel free to post it in the forums. But as for the key to redeem, give it to the recipient via Private Message (PM).

5)Have fun, participate in forums, and be sure not to take anything too seriously.

Here on the forums, yeah. Several users do them regularly (xyem being the most notable), and many more of us will host them on our birthdays or other special days (I just did one to celebrate the fact that I got a house). Basically, whoever wins the givaway gets a GOG redeemable game code sent to them via PM or email. It's pretty simple.

Hope you enjoy your stay here :3. Be sure to pick up all the free games offered (Beneath a Steel Sky in particular is quite fun).

Welcome to the most eerily generous forum on the internet. xD
I didn't see it posted yet, so here are the Terms and Conditions: http://www.gog.com/en/support/policies/terms_of_use

The crux of the site is that gOg is trusting us to do the right thing with the games: don't torrent or otherwise give away the product you bought (unless purchased as a gift), and in turn they won't irritate the crap out of us with DRM.

Oh, I'm having problems finding the "How do I gift a game" thread, so if someone could help out with linking to that...
Hey you guys!!!
