2011 has been a fantastic year for GOG.com, let's make it even better and make the last push to achieve the 6 million unique downloaded games milestone.

During our presentation at the CD Projekt Fall 2011 Conference we've shared some numbers that show how successful this year was for GOG.com, all that was possible thanks to you - our great community. One of the big milestones we'd like to celebrate with you is the 6 million unique downloaded games! Help us achieve this number and we'll launch a time-limited special offer for all GOG.com users!

Note that when we say "unique games downloaded," that means redownloading games that you have already downloaded before won't increment the counter.

When the counter on the main page of the website hits 6 million, two exciting things will happen. First off, the lucky user who downloaded our 6 millionth unique game will receive everything that's currently in the catalog, absolutely free! Secondly, everyone who has an account on GOG.com will be able to download Broken Sword: Shadow of The Templars Director’s Cut for free, thanks to Sir Charles Cecil and Revolution Software. The offer will be valid only for 48 hours starting from hitting the milestone, so be sure to check GOG regularly or follow us on and [url=https://www.facebook.com/gogcom]Facebook. Let's get cracking to unlock this achievement as soon as possible - it's all in your hands now!

hedwards: That's nothing, I looked something up a while back to see if there were copies available and one of the new sealed boxes was going for over $400, I'm not sure if it will ever sell, but that's what happens when games end up in the collectors' market.

rampancy: Was this, by any chance, ChronoTrigger?
I don't think so, but I can't remember what it was.

I think it was one of the recent threads where the definition of abandonware and its existence came into doubt. But I'm too lazy to search the forum for it.
$400 seems quite cheap compared to...

Number 6 milions of downloads will be broken within 1 week, if daily is 20 thousands of download.
how many copies of the free games have been downloaded ?
Am I the only one who counted the time between consecutive ticks of the 6M counter?

It's roughly 4 seconds. That means that we will hit the 6M approx in five days, next friday. Also it means that at the same speed GOG would sell 7.8M games per year. Since they sold 1M in the first year, 2 M in the second year and about 4-6M in the third year, this means more than 200% growth year to year and estimated >10M downloads next year (if there is no end of growth coming). Well, probably on the conference they already said this.

No, I did too...
It's roughly 4 seconds.
Hmm... I made it once every Pi seconds, near enough...

It might flatten out a bit once the D&D offer is no longer valid.

I dunno, it'll take me a week to DL them all LOL
And I'd expect it to speed up as we get nearer the mark (with a final big jump as many people try to be 'the one' )

This might not be the 'usual' download pace (I've heard people buy games and not download them yet) but spurred on by the big counter itself.

I've decided not to try for the 6M prize (I'll DL my stuff some time before and after the 'mark'). Truthfully it'd probably be wasted on me LOL
I'd love the rpgs and point'n'clicks but the shooters and rtss wouldn't get much play.
Better it go to an 'all-round' gamer and/or someone who regularly buys from gog and might give back to the community.
I'll take the free BS1 and be happy :) (not to mention all those D&D games I just bought will keep me busy for a long time)
deleted for epic awesomeness.
(note to self, do not post when not having slept)

amok: I regretted it...
you might want to edit out the link (as I just nearly forgot to do LOL) so that when the spam gets removed the link won't catch anyone by mistake :)

Does anyone know if downloads are counted when you add a game to the downloader or when you initiate downloading from the GOG downloader?

I did this too, with a little more OCD. I took several samples of sales values based on loading the gog.com website over a 24 hour period, put them in a spreadsheet, graphed it and performed a linear regression (it fit well).

My data: OpenOffice Spreadsheet (ODS 20KB)

Based on this (questionable) analysis, the 6M mark will be reached this Thursday (9/29) at 8AM CDT.

GOG.com's sales counter javascript apparently varies the downloadCounterTempo, whether or not that's based in reality. FWIW, I reloaded a few minutes apart (just now) and saw 0.33, 0.35, and 0.36.

I think there should have been that everybody gets a gift gard, even for 6 dollars. Broken sword is great but already played it like 5 times and not likely be the sixth millionth loader.
Well.. At least there was a good deal with those Torments and all and there's that witcher patch coming.
