2011 has been a fantastic year for GOG.com, let's make it even better and make the last push to achieve the 6 million unique downloaded games milestone.

During our presentation at the CD Projekt Fall 2011 Conference we've shared some numbers that show how successful this year was for GOG.com, all that was possible thanks to you - our great community. One of the big milestones we'd like to celebrate with you is the 6 million unique downloaded games! Help us achieve this number and we'll launch a time-limited special offer for all GOG.com users!

Note that when we say "unique games downloaded," that means redownloading games that you have already downloaded before won't increment the counter.

When the counter on the main page of the website hits 6 million, two exciting things will happen. First off, the lucky user who downloaded our 6 millionth unique game will receive everything that's currently in the catalog, absolutely free! Secondly, everyone who has an account on GOG.com will be able to download Broken Sword: Shadow of The Templars Director’s Cut for free, thanks to Sir Charles Cecil and Revolution Software. The offer will be valid only for 48 hours starting from hitting the milestone, so be sure to check GOG regularly or follow us on and [url=https://www.facebook.com/gogcom]Facebook. Let's get cracking to unlock this achievement as soon as possible - it's all in your hands now!
So you can download games you've bought but never downloaded before, right? You don't have to buy and download a new game?

Gibush: So you can download games you've bought but never downloaded before, right? You don't have to buy and download a new game?
Yes.
I will laugh my hind-end off if they're giving the catalog to the person who is the 6 millionth to *complete* a download, not start one! ;)

What would really be cool is if this lucky person continued to receive free GOG games as they're released going forward...

TheEnigmaticT: I will confess to being a bit puzzled by that statement; we are giving you guys a free game and paying download costs and what all out of pocket. How is that not a gift?
Sorry, I wasn't trying to impugn GOG's generosity, simply trying to explain why this is a little different than, for example, the free game that came with TW2 pre-order, and there probably won't be a replacement for those who already own Broken Sword. Hopefully that makes some kind of sense.

orcishgamer: It's not really a gift per se, it's a promo, the promo price just happens to be "Free" instead of 2.99 or whatever.
avatar
Miaghstir: Heh, even with a 100% off promo, people like to find a reason to complain :-)

(that smiley at the end means it's written in a joke-ish manner, so to all of those who like to find a reason to complain, please don't take offence)
Well, to be clear, I think it's cool as hell, even if it doesn't directly benefit me. And yes, people seem to complain a lot of awesome stuff that happens on GOG:)

I have the game, but I would not mid gifting it to a friend.

just get your friend to sign up to gog.com now and they'll be able to 'buy' it when it comes out :)
(unless you mean you'd get a code to hang onto to give away later?)

---

Downloading Riven at home now - might be able to get it to work on my work PC (but you didn't hear that :P )
I may be 'out' around the time the 6M comes up but if I'm in I'll try one of the many new D&D's I picked up as an early Christmas+Birthday pressie :)

Go GOG :)

I wonder
if the free games count?
avatar
peixoto: Hi.

I have only 2 games left o download and try to win the whole gog.com catalog.
Could someone please tell me when would be the "best chance" time to download them?
For example at 5.999.990 I would start the first download, stop it, and at 5.999.997 start the second one.
I read somewhere in the thread that the counter is delayed a couple seconds...

Thanks.
You guys are not well.

Take a break.

At a certain other Mac software forum that I frequent, there was some big news when they decided to give away a bundle of several prominent Mac indie/shareware apps for free instead of charging their usual fee for them. The amount of complaining surrounding that bundle was deafening.

GOG could announce System Shock 2 tomorrow for free, with full compatibility with Windows 7/Vista, and people would still find something to complain about. :P

Of course, I can imagine it now: "I bought this for €300 on ebay a week ago and have been working without food or sleep since and finally got it working an hour ago, and now you're giving it away for free! I feel cheated, I want yo to buy my copy for thrice what I paid for it as well as reimburse me for lost weight, wages, and sanity!"

Speaking of System Shock 2, I was at the Electronics Market where I live in Korea, and discovered a gaming stall which has loads upon loads of old, *very old* and *very very old* games, among piles of obscure JRPGs and anime fighting games; there were original boxed, mint copies of Battlezone II (which works in WINE/CrossOver apparently), Warzone 2100 (lol), SimCity 2000 Deluxe Edition (didn't get that because I'm expecting a release on GOG), Marathon 2: Durandal for Windows (kinda cool if you're a hardcore Bungie afficionado) and, well, System Shock 2...the price tag said 7700w (about €5) - the guy sold it to me for 3000w (about €1.90).

Now to figure out how to get it to work on WINE or CrossOver...I'd say that this almost makes up for me missing out on that boxed Freespace/Freespace 2 pack that I should have bought years and years ago... :)

EDIT: Holy Sh!t, you weren't kidding. Brand new, sealed copies of SS2 are fetching at least USD $270 on Ebay.

I was, actually. I figured the prices were high, but I did hope my exaggeration was more than 10%.

Ridiculous prices like that are why I really, really hope GoG manages to release the full blown DVD video version of Wing Commander IV, man would that ever be killer. It works perfectly on modern systems with a patch or two.

That's nothing, I looked something up a while back to see if there were copies available and one of the new sealed boxes was going for over $400, I'm not sure if it will ever sell, but that's what happens when games end up in the collectors' market.

Was this, by any chance, ChronoTrigger?
