cmdr_flashheart: Pharaoh + Cleopatra is quite awesome, I am not surprise that side is winning! Looking forward to tomorrow ^^

disi: I think this is relaxed building, trying to build up a self-sufficient economy and nice looking places versus quick building, stress, war and strategic battles. :)
Yeah, exactly! I read that the level/character progress happens based on how well you build cities, like you start out as a community leader/peasant, but end up the Queen's trusted builder dude. And yes, it's not war-oriented, so that's always a nice change!

Trid: So, is Unreal 2 as bad as ppl say?
i played it through long time ago. I think it was pretty, if somewhat short shooter. If you want to just shoot stuff, i wouldnt say its bad pick at all for that price.

physiq: I dunno which side to vote, though. I don't wanna hurt anyone's feelings. I might abstain my vote. :P

El_Caz: You're not voting? YOU JUST HURT MY FEELINGS!!!
lol ok, I'll cast my vote this time. XD
My vote goes to Caesar, Pharaoh, Zeus bundle. I have one in my wish list anyway. :)
I hope Caeser 3 and friends will win. If so I will buy all three. Been thinking about getting these for ages.
Very tight race so far for the day 3 voting!

Ghorpm: I've posted a suitable between those three some time ago but I cannot find it now. Luckily I made a backup on my hard disk so I'll paste it here:

Elinnea: Thanks, this is very helpful!
You are welcome! Please note that Caesar 3 is definitely not a bad game, it's still an enjoyable game. If you, however, want to get only one title you should get either Pharaoh or Zeus. But if you can afford it and want to experience the epic city-building saga I can wholeheartedly recommend getting all of them!
The Sierra building games are gonna win this round.
YAY!
Finally Unreal is mine again! :) Never played through because it was too hard for me back then... But nowaday my skills are grown and reflexes are better (damn skarj!), so I take this low-price chance to beat it finally! :)
I'll also get me the second part, have never played it. It looks damn good :)

Thank you GOG and also thanks to all who voted for Unreal! :)
The difference between the votes is the same the whole time - 400 votes in favor of Zeus, Caesar and Pharaoh.
Between Unreal Gold, Unreal 2 and Red Faction, which one would you recommend most and why? Which has the most enjoyable gameplay? Which the more interesting story (if there's a story to speak of)? Which is the most accessible (that is to say the least hard)?

Are they recommendable even for players who usually aren't that much into FPS games, due to originality, atmosphere, exploration, story, any historical value or just their great fun factor? Or are they mostly for fans of the genre?
pls vote zeus/pharaoh/caesar

As far as I can tell, the Red Faction games are better for us non-pro-FPS players, hence why I voted for that pack instead of the Unreal one. I may be wrong, though, like I said, I'm far from being an expert on first person shooters, it's just that based on gameplay videos and word of mouth from some friends I get the impression the Unreal games are more aimed at the "hardcore" FPS gamers, whereas Red Faction has a fun factor, some story and easier mechanics that can appeal to newcomers to the genre, as well.

Maybe my perception is way off, but it's all can tell you, sorry.

Yeah, me, too, but I hardly know anything about the Unreal games. I've only seen a friend play a bit of Tournament and that probably wouldn't interest me that much, but it seems the other two do have a single player story? From what I read Red Faction might be a bit more original due to the desctructible environment. I quite liked Red Faction: Armaggeddon, but it seems it's not that well liked among fans of the series, and probably very different than RF 1-3, so on the one hand I'm curious about the first, supposedly best (?) game in the series, on the other hand I fear that I might be disappointed. And the price of the Unreal games is more attractive right now, heh. ;)

I finished "Red Faction", and read some reviews and heard some critics about "Unreal Gold" and "Unreal 2".
First, if you want to discover, I recommand Unreal Gold or Red Faction, but not Unreal 2, because he seems not as interesting and good as the fist Unreal (so, better to begin with the best ^^).

Red Faction seems, for me, a little bit more "open" for new players : the story (wich made me think to some 80's SF plot), the "fun" moments (first FPS where you can destroy some parts of field. Not used a lot but interesting), some really good music, some really great moments....
The spirit and athmosphere is a little more "modern" (not the story, but the way it is made), in contrary to Unreal Gold wich is more in the "old way" (but it's my opinion).
They are both important for history of FPS, for different reasons.
I don't know about the Unreal Gold's story, but the Red Faction is not so bad, but very "classic" if you like 80's SF and not really deep (but sufficient enough).

The two may be a good beginning I think, but with a little more for Red Faction. And you can try any of this two even if you don't know the genre.

My advice : if you want to try one, take a look at the screenshots of the games to have an idea of the athmosphere, and which one you prefer. Unreal Gold is (from what I heard) a great game. Red Faction is a good game, not the top, but a good game (and I liked it when I played it).

I hope this will help you in your decision, and that you'll be happy in what you'll choose :)

Unreal Gold and Unreal 2 are for single player (even if there is a multiplayer mode), and I'm pretty sure that for the first, there is a story (don't really know about the 2). I think (I'm not sure) that it's why there is Unreal Tournament : it was made especially for the multiplayer.

For the destructible environment : remember it was the first to implement this (just don't expect "everything fully destructible" ;) ).
I really had great moments with Red Faction 1 (but I never played any other of the franchise... ). Another thing intersting about it, is that it was various : sometimes discovering, killing, "sneaking"...
I wanted to buy it again, but, I had to buy Unreal Gold which I never played and Unreal Tournament I want to play again ^^ I understand so much your hesitation ;)

Yep, Unreal Gold mainly focuses on the single player mode and unlike most other mindless shooters it has an interesting story and puzzles to solve.

This video review should give you a good idea what to expect from Unreal Gold:
Warning: Contains spoilers! (from around 13 min. on).
