Tag Team Game Rumble!

You could hear the sound of crowds going wild! You could hear hear the epic guitar riffs going off! You could hear the sound of muscular bodies slamming against the arena floor! No, this wasn't the echoes of Wrestlemania XXX. It was our very own special [url=http://www.gog.com/gamerumble]Battle of the Games 2014 promo, with stables of amazing games facing off each other three by three in explosive combat. You, dear GOGgers, were the referees. Now, the time has come for the grand finale! We know who won, and who did not. All of the participating games are now simultaneously on sale for the next 48 hours!
I vote for emperor: rise of the middle finger... I mean kingdom

StingingVelvet: It's about the same as most original Xbox shooters were back in that time period. Pariah, Snowblind, etc. If you like some of those you might like this, but we had much better before and much better since.
lol, I remember a shitload of them on the local electronics store being sold for 1€, a few years back.
Just got Unreal Gold which I haven't ever played :) Thanks GOG.
Just a simple question, is MP component good in Unreal Gold or should I get Unreal Tournament?

My personal favorite was the MP in UT 2004 :) I recall many fun LAN parties with that game. I got into the whole LAN party thing a bit later than everyone else so I never got to MP the earlier Unreals :)

StingingVelvet: Yay I am now the owner of the horrible Unreal sequel made for Xbox. So thrilled.

Fuck.

Niggles: How bad is it? (have it never downloaded)
It's not [i][that/i] bad. It's very slow (as in the guy's walking speed is slower than most games crouching speed) and only has passing ties to the original Unreal (I think Epic wanted to have a big expansive universe like Star Wars, Transformers or how Mass Effect would later) but went about it totally the wrong way by totally changing the game's asphaltic and levelling you the dark as to what happened after the original Unreal.

But it does have some fun weapons (I love the flamethrower) and the story and characters did grow on me.

The original Unreal was a masterpiece that stood with Half-life and Quake 2 and held it's own. At best Unreal 2 is just a decent shooter with some fun weapons and a running speed that feels like walking.
Looks like I keep backing the losers, but I'd rather own the losers. At least I have more interest in the winner from today's battle.

Ooh, the voting is now 2449 vs 2029. This game could still swing.

Does anyone have a recommendation between the three city builders? I have Zeus & Poseidon wishlisted from a while back, and neither of the other two, but I forget if I had a good reason for that. I've never played any of them.

Thanks for the tip, I believe that I've played both, UT and UT2004 a long time ago, I recall that it was fun. But I haven't played Unreal Gold MP, so I would like to know if it's sufficient and fun enough for some LAN party or if it's better to play MP only in the Tournament games.
Too bad that UT2004 is not discounted right now :), I'll probably pick it up later.

I've posted a suitable between those three some time ago but I cannot find it now. Luckily I made a backup on my hard disk so I'll paste it here:

Caesar III is the oldest and a bit unpolished. Pharaoh and Zeus improved many things without losing anything significant so I would suggest choosing one of those. Zeus, however, cannot be simply treated as enhanced version of Pharaoh because those two games focus on different things:

Pharaoh: building pyramids and other monuments is where the game truly shines. Be aware that it takes A LOT of time and effort to finish such a project (quite realistic, isn't it?;) but it's extremely rewarding to watch how the work progress. The game also focuses on managing your citizens. They have very complex needs and satisfying all of theme is very difficult. Food production is also worth mentioning. The fertility of the soil depends on Nile flooding. If it's big - you'll get a lot of crops. If it's bad - you'll just get some scraps. So you have to keep it in mind and try to have some reserves in your granaries.

Zeus: temples are much faster to build, the amount of resources and services that your population requires is significantly decreased. So what is the main focus of this game? The campaign mode is divided into several adventures and it's a good name: you can expect a lot of events happening during the gameplay. A mythological monster may attack you city and you will have to call a hero to help you. But first you'll have to meet his requirements and it's not always easy. You will see gods talking a walk in your city. They may bless you but they can also curse you or even try to destroy your city.

If you prefer slow paced game with a focus on building awesome monuments get Pharaoh. If dealing with unique and sometimes unexpected events is appealing to you choose Zeus.

My personal favorite is definitely Pharaoh but I know that many people have different opinion ;)

Thanks, this is very helpful!
Well it seems Caesar, Pharaoh and Zeus series is more or less winning the voting now. I think the Empire Earth series would have had bigger chance to win if there weren't the Empire Earth 3 in the bundle. But it might yet turn around till tomorrow.

The site is letting me vote multiple times. I don't know if it's actually counting it or not. I'm hitting the button just to see what the tally is, because every time I visit the site it treats me as if I haven't voted.

AdamR: How long will the Battle of the Games last?
Bumping this question cos I'd like to know as well.

Any GoG Staff reading this able to let us know how long the Battle of the Games will last? Just searched the whole thread but there wasn't an answer :(

Just bought everything today except Unreal Tournament but it looks like my wallet will get a respite tomorrow as I own those 6 games. I'll be voting for the RTS side.
Finally got Unreal Gold! It is one of the very few classics from the late '90s- early 2000s I never had the chance to play. I always kept on forgetting its existence, somehow!
Gap of 400 votes....
