These platform discussions/rants etc can be so tiresome. I run a film/TV/Media company. MAC has served this community well and you'll find the far majority of design/media/film/TV production facilities are based on the MAC platform. Partially it is because these industries value aesthetics and PC's operating systems have, and unfortunately continue to be ugly, un-user friendly and undeniably still the most likely to encounter viruses. MAC is run by design principles and on a philosophy of co-ordinated hardware and software which makes things simpler for non-tech heads. I run a MAC PRO Tower with base camp, so I can boot up in Windows whenever I want and that is always how I have played GOG games - on my windows partition. But I spend as little time in Windows as I can, because the aesthetics of Windows are unpleasant and primitive, its interface is clumsy and clunky and to be honest I just don't get excited about being creative staring at it every day of my life. You spend a large portion of your life on these machines. It's like living in an apartment. Do you want to live in a creative, fun, stimulating environment - or in a soulless, industrial room? Now I know there are many other ways of looking at this issue, but these principles are important to me and to others like me. To other users, it's not an issue and I respect that. So far, on very little evidence the engineering of GOG's MAC games seems excellent and I'm happy not to have to go to BOOTCAMP just to play some games. Also it appears if you have bought the game for PC, you don't have to re-buy for MAC. Another example of GOG providing excellent value and care to their customers. As usual, I'm impressed. I'm glad, my experience with GOG allowed me to learn more about the Windows/PC platform. I just don't want to live there, that's all.

Hello GOG guys.
I am here to inform you that I have, using nothing but common sense, analyzed your plan and deemed it unfit. There are a lot of Chinese people, so supporting Mac instead of Chinese is a very bad business decision. It is also clear that the people who you have working on making the Mac support happen are multitools and not actually human, so they could easily be told to make the Chinese support happen, especially since these tasks are basically the same. I have played a management game, and you only need to press "add worker to this task" to make the multitool employee hasten the progress of the task significantly. There is most certainly not only a multimillion Apple bribe conspiracy but also a deep rooted hate for the Chinese and what they stand for behind this. Please reconsider.

I sincerely wish that you will stop being evil antagonists that hate us all, and release every game now. It shouldn't be too hard. I took a set of premises that I personally deemed logical and hence true, and constructed a deduction from them, thus making an infallible reasoning about human behavior in an economic setting that I've not been a part of. Why you don't just release the games is beyond me, because I don't think evil, like you do.

Love and kisses,
Adzeth
XOXOXOXO

PS. I'm not being serious

You must also take into consideration that both Apple and all Mac users invariably have truckloads of money to throw GOG's way if supported, while Chinese people have little to none, thus making supporting the latter bad business sense and only serving to invite them communists to feed off our plate while getting nothing in return.

(Seriousness being about as high as the replied-to post.)

You must take into consideration that Macs are made in China, probably, so the Chinese could very well just snag the Macs they're making, and since every Mac user is rich, every Chinese person would be rich. Though then GOG would have to support Macs... hmmm... a conundrum..

dirtyharry50: Bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch.... Will you just shut up? Nobody wants to hear your whining about Apple and how you disliked the Macintosh of 9 years ago in a thread that is about the great news of Mac games being released on GOG.

rampancy: I hate being disrespectful to others here on the forums, but... Stop it. Seriously. I don't know Bloodygoodgames personally, but what I do know is that she (he?) is one of the more mature, reasoned, and level-headed posters that I've seen recently on the forums. I've seen her (his?) posts in the political/societal debate threads that pop up on this forum from time to time, and I've often found her posts to be bold and insightful. Just like the many, many others on this forum who happen to dislike, for many rational reasons I might add, Apple and the Mac platform. They are perfectly entitled to their opinion, just as how you are entitled to yours. But do you know what you are not entitled to do? Act disrespectful and arrogant because someone disagrees with you. I think Bloodygoodgames has every reason to be annoyed; I would have wanted Linux compatibility too. I was just fine running my GOG releases before this announcement and honestly, it doesn't really change things for me, except that with more customers and money coming into GOG, the probability of us getting more classic and indie releases increases dramatically. You're doing yourself – and the other Mac users on this forum, like myself – no favours by acting like that. Yeah, I've been offended by some of the comments made about Mac users like myself by some of the people here, but I try to remember that there are more important things to argue about than Mac vs. Windows, and there is a lot more depth to a person beyond something ultimately frivolous as what computer they choose to use. If you're fed up with someone's complaining, the best thing to do, IMO is just ignore it and move on.
If you hate being disrespectful to others here on the forums the solution is simple.

Don't do it.

Problem solved.

There was already a discussion about what you dredged up again unnecessarily which had already run its course. You had nothing to add and did add nothing to it but I guess it felt good to you to climb up on your soapbox and publicly kiss her ass. You instruct others not to act disrespectful and arrogant when you do so yourself, lecturing away. If you want to see her behavior through rose colored glasses, perhaps as someone else noted, because she is female, fine. Just don't expect the rest of us to do the same.

Your comments indicate to me by the way that you did not carefully read or perhaps do not fully recall the original post knocking Apple Computer and calling Macs a P.O.S., etc. I call this bitching and needless bitching at that. You call it and I quote, "mature, reasoned, and level-headed." Go figure.

Here's some disrespect for you from Bloody herself soon after your rant where she puts down someone's intellect:

"only someone who really isn't that intelligent could come up with that kind of rationale. But, yep, those types of people are out there and unfortunately they occasionally show up on GOG :) "

Or how about this where she calls someone a fool?

"And no.....I won't be wasting time answering the fool that posted below yours. That boy must be 12 years old :) "

I could find many more such quotes but there is no need. These suffice to make the point. As I said before and I will now say to you since you seem to want to join the forum police: be consistent. Apply the same rules to all - pick no favorites. Do that and you will earn my respect but you aren't getting it otherwise.

cyboff: Hey GOG! You are suprising me still and everywhere!!! I didn't noticed it at first, but artworks in .dmgs are just AWESOME!!! They are made with real love! Thank you Windows users can be jealous:D
avatar
1UP: Oh yeah, I noticed that too! Try zooming them all the way up to 512x512 :) This is what I was talking about, Mac apps somehow tend to have that little bit more polish than their Windows cousins, probably just cause of being in a posh neighborhood, so to speak ^^
avatar
Bloodygoodgames: LOL. I see why your rep is 4 :)
avatar
1UP: I also only have 4 posts, more or less. This is the only thread I've read and chimed in since joining GOG 3 years ago. I was content with just burying your irrelevant posts until you started derping about others doing the same thing you were doing. That was too much to let pass lol As for your rep, may I suggest spotlighting the fact that "yeah, you're a girl" a little more? A signature linking to your Facebook maybe, a pouty/busty photo in your avatar? I hear the duckface does wonders. psh (⁊_⁊)
Tell it like it is man. :D

Here you go, it's attached to my post. There are no installers on Mac, so this is all we get.

Oh, the Witcher has an even nicer background. It doesn't add anything, but it's still nice that GoG went the extra step for the background, it shows that they care. Gives me a nice warm feling ^^

Nice, I like these little touches. :)

And if she actually was as disrespectful of others as you show, then I'm calling her out on being just as disrespectful and immature in this discussion as you've been. The difference is that I've seen her other posts on other threads and seen that she's at least a pretty decent person on the forums, who's said some good things on other threads relating to politics and social issues.

That and I choose not to make value judgements on other people's character based on their choice in computing platform, which so many other people seem to love doing – on both "sides". And I'm talking about a lot of other people here, not just you and Bloodygoodgames.

I choose to try my best to not meet that by engaging in needless and pointless sniping, because ultimately, as others have pointed out earlier, that accomplishes nothing.

1UP: 70% or so of all computers sold for over $1000 also happen to be Macs.
I find that hard to believe, especially if Macs only make up 6% of desktops. Where did you get that number from?
(Where I live you'd be hard pressed getting a reasonably good gaming PC for less than $1k)

cyboff: Actually, I was talking about backgrounds and design of .dmg file, when you open it... I didn't noticed perfect icons before, another surprise :D

Here's the icons in all their Retina glory :)

I only have a poor HD screen so they don't all fit :( The Retina MacBooks and Thunderbolt displays are a little out of my reach at the moment LOL

Don't forget that laptop sales have outnumbered desktop sales for a few years at least now, and the gap has only increased. And the fact that the Mac makes up 6% of desktops speaks volumes about the laptop market share (Mac desktops are decreasing, but they still manage to hold that market share, and laptops are increasing rapidly - and as 1UP said, $1K computers aren't all too common, making the Apple share in that segment even more imposing, given how Apple has no computers below that price).

1UP: You COULD try VNC'ing into your Mac desktop and sharing its screen if you were so inclined :P but if you got an iPad you probably wouldn't have time for gaming on the Mac anyway! The other alternative would be jailbreaking and see if there's any emulators, but playing DOS games with the onscreen keyboard won't be worth it IMO.
I don't have a Mac! But yeah, I might consider jailbreaking it. For now I'm playing the original Carma on it, it was free for a day. Good fun!
Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, the "source link" on wikipedia was no longer valid, but from the context I'm assuming it's ~70% of all new, most likely pre-built, computers sold in the USA for more than $1k (or about $1100 in 2012 money). That makes a lot more sense as - according to my personal experience - most people buying expensive PCs buy them in pieces or upgrade cheap ones. I don't know how common it is to build your own Mac (or if it's even "allowed"), but after the move from Motorola to Intel, it should be possible I'd think.

As for Mac owners having more money on average, I'd say everything points in that direction. I'm not too sure about what that means in relation to GOG, though, as GOG games are quite cheap. Likely too cheap for some to even consider buying (I know people like that.. guess it's the other side of the coin of assuming you get better quality products the more you pay for them).

The rest of this post is just a rant - skip it if you like.

Through the years I've viewed the Motorola chips being "superior" to Intel, agreeing with Macs being better at multimedia (only used it for recording and processing audio, though - I suck at anything graphics related), but this doesn't hold for newer Macs in my opnion. Moving to Intel was probably a very good financial move, but it also took away something from the "right tool for the job" argument.

To me, "different" is good - that's what makes something the better tool for a given task, for instance - but it seems to me the "difference" between Macs and PC is more and more reduced to a different price-tag. Of course, this also means that if you delievers your Mac for repair, you'll be treated the same as if you deliever your (higher-end) Mercedes for service - a sizeable bill, but no potentially confusing questions asked.

Edit just to clarify a bit:
I have absolutely nothing against GOG supporting Mac. I won't benefit from it personally as I don't have (or plan to buy) any Apple devices, but so what? Lots of people do, and I'm happy on their behalf. Making a company grow isn't only about increasing revenue.

Um, I don't think I agree with you there. If Apple has no computers below that price at all, these statistics are taken out of context to the degree that they're wildly misleading. Flip it around and it's "the Macs market penetration in the sub $1k computer segment is 0%", e.g. why even bother with them at all. Does this reflect reality in a meaningful way?
