yogsloth: I'm guessing just from the flavor of this game
Interesting choice of words. Clearly chosen to attract attention.

avatar
yogsloth: In fact, all we've got so far in two days of the usual "talk about nothing, oh btw, I'm town" herp-a-derp is Flub's "vanilla" avatar. (Sage and I also changed avatars, but hers is to Roger Wilco which is hardly informational, and mine is just a cool Alien dude.) Since that role claim is all we have, that's the only starting point.
Role claims are always funny because they change how people play the game, but as we have seen, it is easy to lie. However, I agree with the "Business as usual" attitude since we've seen it's easy to gain credibility through useless chatter in the previous game. Looking at you trent.

yogsloth: If I'm privileged enough to get to play more Mafia games, you'll probably find this is my style - I don't want to be a complete wallflower, just hoping nobody notices me... that's utterly boring. Let's get this party started one way or the other!
Play styles are fun and all, but make sure you don't use the same one every game, otherwise it will be a piece of cake for mafia to read your moves.
As for starting this game, I prefer to do it in an efficient way. Last 2 games the beginning was crap.

dedoporno: I noticed the same thing. Based on what players from #22 said, HijacK's attitude and play-style was pretty similar in both #22 and #23, where he was pretty aggressive and cocky. Everyone, including himself, said that this is the way he plays the game. But I don't see this now and am wondering what does that mean, if anything... But this time around I would also prefer to not be too fast to judge and sign death warrants.
avatar
mrkgnao: I don't know whether you've read the observer thread in game #23, but HijacK was pretty active there in much the same way he had been in day #1 of game #23, and a few of the other participants tried to show him "the error of his ways". Perhaps they convinced him to be try an alternative. Or perhaps he needs to make sure he survives to game end this time.

HijacK, care to comment?
I take on many personas and while each of one may be a part of my character, it doesn't mean it's my character as a whole, nor is there any guarantee the persona is genuine.

Well, I can say I find your comments this time more useful and productive than in the last two games, especially the last three posts.

Maybe it's just the fact you're used to dealing with these type of people. Most personalities and people can be manipulated. It just takes to know how.

adaliabooks: I'm a train. Chu chu!

Vitek: I sense false-claim. :-)
Pfft, shows what you know, I'm clearly a train. Thomas the Tank Engine to be exact.

I can see where you are coming from with HijacK's behaviour, trent's different play style was one of the big clues I had last game that he was scum, but I'm not sure that the same can be said of HijacK, he's just a bit too unpredictable.

That's the wonder and paradox of this game, especially Day One. We have no info to go on and the odds are we will lynch a townie. So the littlest thing gets pounced upon as a "tell" for someone being scum.

There are things to look for, just pay close attention.
Morning all! (well its morning where I am)...

hmmm, I love it when people start to state 'well we're moving out of RVS then' , as if that makes it bound to happen...

A lot of fluff to go through, but thats always the case first day.

So - onwards. Whats got me so far is that everyone is Still playing cards close to their chests - Flubb for example in last post 'there are things to look for, just pay close attention'

IF you are town you should be highlighting these things and bringing them out in the open IMMEDIATELY, not hinting mysteriously at them!! We only have one weapon as Town - that is our vote. It applies pressure and induces slips from Scum. Just wittering on about stuff and not actually using that vote just makes it an easy ride for the scum.

So - has ANYONE got anything tickling their scumdar at the moment?? I have noticed one thing.

@Adaliabooks - Vitek said 'I am Spaceship'. What made you reply 'I am Train'? Just a flippant remark? Can you see why I'm doing this?

Purely flippant. While I suppose it's not entirely impossible there is some kind of space train in the setting I wouldn't really expect it. I just wanted to say "Chu Chu!"...

I do agree about sharing info, if anyone finds anything suspicious it's worth closer examination by the group as a whole. Unfortunately I've got nothing to share as of yet.

trentonlf: The fact that yogsloth was asking if we thought this might be another role madness game makes it seem as if he has a role and is trying to prode others to see if they do too.
I don't even know how one can start to discuss role madness so early when there isn't anything to even get you going about it. Last time it took a bold mason claim along with lovers demise to make me consider such scenario. Now we have nothing.

As a matter of fact yogsloth actually stated that he doesn't believe this is role madness which makes me consider two possible situations:

1. He (you're a guy, right?) is vanilla whatever which by default gives him the knowledge of the game not being role madness.
1.1. Knowing it's not role madness, he wants to know what others think and possibly drop some hints about having special roles which seems scummy so early on.

2. He has a special role but uses this approach to make us see option 1 as the more plausible one and driving off attention from his persona as a non-interesting/essential one to target so early. I wonder if I should count this as scummy. I get trying to stay alive and point attention elsewhere but I don't really like the approach if this is what it's really going on.

Hmm...

Okay I'll play along wolfie.

The obvious things are the players readily stepping forward to defend or offer reasons for other players posts or claims. The "quick to buddy up with another player" (barnacle) using their reasons as their own. The subtle interactions between players in where paying close attention comes into play. When you start to notice particular players never seem to interact at all, or if some interactions seem staged, these should be scrutinized.

Voting is also something to carefully consider. In the last game there were many accusations being flung around by the scum without any votes being cast by them.

In conclusion, there are things to look for, just pay close attention.

Or here's a third: He's still raw and has no idea how to approach the situation. Possibilities are infinite. Some are just more plausible than others due to our experiences.

Well, yogsloth did say he paid close attention to the previous game(s?), so he should be about as raw as I am in terms of GOG forum mafia. But I hear where you're coming from and I don't exclude this nor other possible scenarios. I noted these because they are more interesting to think about considering the nature of the game.
It's early and all we can do is speculate. As Rob pointed out any little thing that stands out needs to be considered. My whole point with the question was to see what others thought as it struck me odd what he said. I think it was Starship troopers where it was said "The only good bug is a dead bug" so I'll say "The only good scum is a dead scum" and continue to ask questions of statements or actions I find odd, even if it is someones first game.
The main thing that has jumped out at me so far is how Vitek worded his post about being town in the 10 prior games he has played (paraphrased). I pointed it out in one of my replies, because it implicitly left out talking about being town this game. There are quite a few reasons to word things the way he did, and many don't even take his current alignment in this game into account, so I wanted to gauge his reaction to soft prodding about his word choice. His reaction was decidedly neutral for me, so all in all, it was a null tell as far as I am concerned.

Nothing else has jumped out at me immediately. I have a few niggling feelings about a few people, but none is worth commenting on until more develops. They are barely ghosts of theories at this point.

I think the impression was (at least in my case) that when you said 'there are things to look for, just pay close attention', you were referring to something specific that you had already noticed and were for some reason reluctant to reveal.
