and don't forget, "Kingdom: The Far Reaches" Isn't BROKEN! It's actually supposed to look and play like that.

Well, at this point, I'm thinking that if I had a nickel for everyone someone came into the forum ranting on about GOG and threatening to go to Steam if they didn't get want they wanted...I'd have a lot of nickels.

They usually all calm down and eventually realise that it's very much a case of "the grass is greener on the other side" etc.
@OP,

It seems that you're not particularly tech/ computer savvy and that you have no interest/ intention to become more computer savvy - you expect everything to work out of the box and with the push of a button and if it doesn't you simply dismiss it.
And I don't say any of this in a derogative way, it's just an observasion based on your replies.

I think you've been extremely lucky if you never ever had to tweak or adjust your system to get a piece of S/W to work. If this has indeed been your experience, then maybe you're better off sticking to the Windows games when it comes to PC gaming and look into another gaming platform for your extra entertainment.

But if you're willing to put in some time and effort (i.e. you need to be specific and do some work), GOG support and these forums will guide and offer you any help you need.
GOG support has already stepped in, while good advice has also been offered by a number of members.
If you're serious on reliving your past gaming experiences, don't through this opportunity away - it's entirely up to you now.
Don't any of you worry about it, okay? It has been made abundantly clear to me that it is all my fault and that I never should have expected to simply buy the game, install it, and play it. Five bucks certainly isn't going to break me. And for the record, I usually buy my games at GameStop, Amazon, or Halfprice books. This is the first (and last) time I have tried a downloadable gaming service.

Now you're just overdramatic. Black and white much? You just had some bad luck. Deal with it. And it's for your own disadvantage if you won't buy from GOG anymore, I believe.
But suit yourself :)

Im not normally rude to new comers but after reading through this thread i feel that my saying "Dont let the door hit you on the way out" is justified.

I couldnt care less if people decide to downrep me for this comment either.
Making a couple tweaks to get a game running is too much work, but complaining about it on and off for a day isn't? I'll never understand this attitude...

Reaver, you represent GOG well. "Game didn't work? Too bad. Move over, there's another sucker right behind you."

So instead of letting people help you you just pout. Well, you had bad luck, people at gog tried to help you, and you are still being this silly.
Oh well, you would've gotten way worse responses at steam user forums than here, that's for sure.
I was up to 1 AM trying the suggestions in this thread. The game still told me there were files missing. So I tried. Maybe, just maybe, my complaint will keep someone else from getting burned, but I doubt it as GOG doesn't put a warning on the website that says to check the forums first to see if this game works.

Uh, if something does not work out of the box, literally the first thing one should do is check the forums and or google to see if someone else has gotten that issue. Did you google for replacement files? Installed new drivers? Pasted the missing file in either the windows root OR the game's installation folder?
Because honestly your responses to this thread have been dismissive and you haven't said you've tried things until now.
Generally, if there is a missing file or driver, one of the usual solutions is to google it, find a reputable source, download that, install if necessary, restart, and run it again.

Specifically, I think you have administrator/UAC issues where something is supposed to be written by the installer (possibly to a hidden or system directory) but your system or some other program you have running (like antimalware) isn't allowing it to write.

Last post. Thanks to everyone who tried to help. I did try these "fixes" to no avail. And, no, I don't know how to proceed when a game can't find a file it says it needs, and I've installed every update to my Win 7, video & audio drivers, and DirectX that I can find. I didn't write the game or Windows. I'm just a user who long ago gave up loading HIMEM.sys. Thanks to all who tried to help, and to those who don't give a shit, you are fine examples of the way customer service is going nowadays. So long.

The people who were responding are, save one, customers. So your complaints about customer service is not logical.

I blame your friend, Blaze. It's time you punched him in the mouth..in the morning!
