drmlessgames: Heheh, wouldn't it be cool to have a female version of marcus phoenix character when you play online for example? I always wondered if female gamers didnt care about having a male soldier player character for example, when they are playing a game online.

Romulus: Unfortuatly we're still in an age where if you were to introduce gender choice in such titles you end up with design garbage like this or and [url=http://www.hiphopgamershow.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/gears_09_cover_by_jim_lee.jpg]this. Which don't cater for females at all.

*chuckle* You ought to see what happens in Nverwinter Nights if you put some of the upper-torso clothing on dwarven females. If that's not defying gravity, I dunno what is! I mean, I respect Dolly Parton's singing ability, but don't want all my characters to look like her...

TrIp13G: I say who gives a damn about your gender, as long as you dig games.

I also am not that bothered by other forumers' gender.
Howerver, I can see the relation between the absence of many female gamers and the creation of threads like this.

El_Caz: I've EVERY reason to doubt a forumer's word on his or her gender though.

BladderOfDoom: Fixed. Always question. Take things at face value on the internet and you are likely to get (maybe literally) screwed. Also a fair few men seem to garner some sort of weird enjoyment out of tricking other men into thinking they are women. *shrugs* I don't pretend to understand it.

If someone discloses their gender to me, I'm not going to waste my time thinking up reasons why it might not be true, because it doesn't matter if it's true or not. Questioning literally everything is pointless, and counterproductive to boot. You might as well be suspicious when they tell you they had cereal for breakfast.
If they tell me they can get me a zero-interest loan if I give them my credit card number, then I'll be suspicious.
Incidentally, someone I used to play an online game with actually did deliberately mislead people into thinking he was female. When I found out it wasn't true, I didn't particularly care.
Well, I WOULD care if I was trying to pick her up or going for online dating, but as it stands, I always did that face to face or over the phone. Never been too fond of using the internet in that regard and once you strike that out of the equation, it's pretty unimportant if the person you're posting with is a man or a woman.

Pretty much. Although, it's nice to know which pronouns to use. :p

This.
And never give out information about your own cereal preference freely. You never know how that information might be used against you.

Cereal killers do tend to run rampant, don't they?

BananaJane: No, why would you think that?
I never joke about games.

All games have gameplay in them..or they wouldn't be games. I think that is why the other poster asked if you were joking.
Now I think I know what you mean, games that are more of an experiance then just blowing the crap out of things. Say like the sims? I could be wrong though.

nerog517: Blue Force wasn't that that old police game? I liked that too did you ever play any of the Police Quests by Sierra they were like that

It was released in 1993, so for me, yeah, it was an old game.

BananaJane: I love games that don't focus on gameplay.
From my experience guys are all about gameplay.

So you're more interested in the story than the gameplay used to advance it? Thats certainly the way I am, even if a game has the most awesome gameplay ever, it'll normally lose to a flawed or dull experience with a brilliant story. The lack of story is the primary reason I don't play non-coop mutiplayer games.

My thoughts (almost) exactly. Personally, I play single-player games for the story and play online for teh challenge and teh gameplay... :)
Coming into this a little late but I'm another girl gamer!
My history is a bit spotty. Started out on the TI99/4a (loved those games) and Atari. We also went through a Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Super Ninetendo, N64 and mostly because we got those systems for little or nothing. Somewhere in there I started playing PC games but my experiences & knowledge of them is pretty limited since I've pretty well been on my own there...I'd just pick up whatever looked interesting in the cheapy section. If I could afford console playing, I'd so get into that. I play pretty much anything...almost. I've played Duke Nukem, The Sims, the original Warcraft Trilogy, Fallout (which is what brought me to GoG) and oh so many other things.
My problem is I'm something of a gaming dumbass...I've been out of the scene for so long I have no idea what I might like or where to go to see what's new...the amount of info out there is overwhelming & I'm not sure what's good info & what's not so much.

If I see a game with a caption that seems interesting, I'll go to www.gamerankings.com or www.metacritic.com. They have reviews from all sorts of websites, explaining the good and the bad of the game. If I'm still on the fence, I'll just try the demo. There's a thread here on the general forums with a list of links for the demos of most of GOG's catalog. A couple of good reviews and a fun demo is all I need to buy a game. Barring that, a really cheap price, which is what is keeping me on the periphery of GOG.com :)
