wbaric: It was a popular console with a keyboard (google is your friend). Also, in the early 80s we all play games on computer with joysticks. Trying to define what is a console based on input devices is a mistake.
As the discussion was about general principles, I didn't think to check that there wasn't a single exception from 1978. And yes, we used joysticks on our computers. We still do. We also used keyboards and mice. We still do. On a PC, you use the right tool for whatever job you need done. It's versatile.
But hey, you may be right that it isn't the best definition, but what is? I suppose if you cut down to the core of the matter, a console is a device designed specifically to play games, while a PC is designed to do pretty much anything you can think of, including playing games.
