I would also say the Search function. The fact that every post is in the same place with no sub-forums makes it look very unorganized and random, especially to new people.
Was doing a search for modding yesterday and you try "mod" and get zero hits. Try "mods" and got all kinds of random hits with no way to sort by date, relevance, etc. So I just ended up making a new thread and got my answer pretty darn fast. At least faster than if I had gone thru those hits one by one.

This wouldn't be for users per se, but a "merge threads" function would be nice.

Also, just a reminder that in lieu of the forum search you can always go to google and do "_________ site:gog.com/forum/general" and even sort within certain timeframes. That usually works for me to find older topics for which I can't quite remember the thread title.

Navagon: I would prefer a better message centre with a greater sense of permanence. So it works like the PM system does. You can respond directly to all replies and only replying or closing the message will remove it from the message centre. This would also be good for the times you get multiple replies in the same thread - as the current system will only make you aware of the fact that there is at lest one in that thread. Then you have to go looking for it.
Do you mean the sort of message centre on DeviantArt?

EDIT: Added one for fixing/expanding the search functionality.

Psyringe: A working search function would be a major improvement. This includes functionality to list only posts that contain _all_ target words, and functionality to specify a time frame of the posts.

Voted for all of them. I totally agree that the forum needs a huge makeover because in it's current state it's a mess.

"The website should be fully functional without the use of javascript. Searches should be done on the server. The catalogue should be one long page, not downloaded in several steps. Screen shots should be direct links to the image files. New forum posts should be done in the current tab/window."

The page should be created in HTML1, without any dynamic elements. It's the rule.

Not really a basic feature, but I think user profiles would make a lot of sense for a gaming forum. Lets people advertise which multiplayer games they enjoy and stuff like that.
