Good points there , voted for a couple of them.
As I see it one can never have too many tool at his disposal so I voted for all of them ^_^. Thanks for making this a lot easier to fix/vote.

Navagon: I would prefer a better message centre with a greater sense of permanence. So it works like the PM system does. You can respond directly to all replies and only replying or closing the message will remove it from the message centre. This would also be good for the times you get multiple replies in the same thread - as the current system will only make you aware of the fact that there is at lest one in that thread. Then you have to go looking for it.

xyem: Do you mean the sort of message centre on DeviantArt?

EDIT: Added one for fixing/expanding the search functionality.
I'd be satisfied if clicking on the forum replies notification it'd take you directly to the reply you received and spare you the time and hassle of looking for it.

On a general note, I'm quite surprised and sad that the votes count is so low.

EDIT: changed "message" to "forum replies"

Thanks and +1 for taking the time to compile that list, Xyem. :)

Voted all of them (well, at least those not already voted :D), except two:
- "Make the forum usable without javascript" (because maninatrunk77's comment there, as I don't know anything about javascript)
- "Delete own forum posts" (because the advantage that would give to scammers and such: "My post? What post? I didn't write any post")

This is already easy enough with the ability to edit after replies have already been added, as there's no proof of what the earlier content was (except quotes in replies).

and I guess quoting would also still be the same, i.e. the text will remain in the quotes in the replies even if the original post is deleted, the link will just not work. As it is now, you can edit quotes anyway.

It is just a way of being able to get rid of your own misposting, double posting, misunderstanding of others and so on.

Yes, but the post is there, at least, kind of a circumstantial evidence. ;)

Besides, I don't dare to think which collateral effects would have the implementation of this wishlist feature in the forum engine (let's face it, each time a feature is changed / implemented / removed, SOMETHING unexpected and apparently unrelated happens...) :D

I can confirm that, I saw once how the post of a contestant in a GA of mine disappeared, but my quote to it don't (it was a case of a new member affected by the anti-spam measures taken by GOG months ago).

Yeah, the right usage doesn't worry me. The wrong one (although I can't provide an example right now), does.

If you see a thread with a reply notification (arrow), clicking on it takes you to said reply. Unfortunately, if you have multiple replies in one thread, it will take you to the last reply.

I could screw around a bit and not include your quote, since the notification is generated by clicking "reply", not by the message's content. Feel free to reply/PM if you want more examples for this.

Sorry JMich, only read your reply just now.
I'm aware that you can exclude quotes and how to do it.
What I'd like to discuss is the first part of your reply, because I feel we're talking about different approaches or I'm missing/ doing something wrong.

When I log into my account, hovering over "My Account" opens a drop-down menu.
Among other things, there's "Forum replies" - a number appears next to it if any posts of mine got any replies.
-- Are we talking about the same thing so far? --
If I click on it, it opens a new tab that lists all recent topics I've posted in (not sure how far back it goes) - which is the same as clicking on "My posts". The topics with replies to my posts are listed first.
If I now click on any of them, it just opens the last page of that thread without taking me to the specific reply.

I noticed you replied starting with "If you see a thread with a reply notification (arrow)" which makes me think that you're maybe talking about a different approach.
-- Where would I "see" those threads?
-- Where exactly would the reply notification (arrow) appear?
-- And by "clicking on it " do you mean the thread or the arrow?

I should mention that I think it's quite possible that one or more of my add-ons may be breaking some or more of the forum visuals - so, could you please post a screenshot for me to better understand what you're refering to?

Note: I chose to reply instead of PM in case anyone else is interested in this. If not, no problem to move to PM.

EDIT: Ok, I just had a chance to figure out and test what you said and don't need the screenshot anymore.
The notification arrow is useful though I never noticed it before due to it not showing for me, most probably due to an add-on or custom script, but my mouse-cursor changes when I place it there.
Additional questions:
-- Wouldn't you still need to rely on the "Forum replies" in your account drop-down menu when the thread(s) have fallen off the first page?
-- Do you also get this notification arrow in the "My posts" page?
Thans ahead for any reply, JMIch.

Bit late answer, trouble with internet access at the conference.

1) Forum replies from the dropdown are still required, even more if you have multiple threads with replies. You get a "3 replies" and have 3 threads with arrows next to it (not sure what script is blocking them for you, and can't really test it atm). If the thread is in the current page you are on of course, the "My Posts" isn't really needed.
2) I do get the notification arrow as normal, both in forum view and in "My Posts"

Since my replies will probably be late in coming, I'd suggest moving the rest of the conversation to PM, since delay there doesn't really matter that much, unless of course anyone else wishes to chime in.

I had multiple chances to test the use of the notification arrow during the past couple of days, so it's safe to mark this particular discussion as concluded.

I'm also not sure what's blocking these arrows, but frankly I'm too lazy to even try and figure it out and there's really no need for you to spend your time on it either.
Now that I know about it, I'll just place my mouse-cursor at the end of the thread's title whenever I see that I got a forum reply - problem solved :-)

Thanks for helping me out on this, JMich.
I just went -5 and I wasn't even logged on.

STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
