ken007: Ahhh, you can really feel the good vibes between you two. :P

To the OP: if you knew that it would cost you an extra buck, would you not have bought the games?
Only if the extra buck had 50% off. I only buy games with sales on them.
Edit : Errased because I made a mistake, and don't have a point anymore. Ooops

Take it up with your bank. There are no FTF credit cards out there for you to switch to. Are you really complaining about a few pennies. The largest FTF I ever received was $2 and that was on a rather large $70 purchase. I get charged more sales tax in the grocery store than I spent on those. Mostly my FTF's are under a quarter, I've lost more change than that in my couch.

coolVariable: What absolutely PISSES me off is GOG scumbag approach to pretend as if they are a US website (e.g. USD prices) when they are in fact processing all their CC charges through some shady tax haven to avoid WHT.

BlueMooner: I have no idea what WHT is. White House Taxes? GOG is located in Poland, so they're not a US company trying to circumvent US tax law. I believe their bank is located in Cyprus. There are no tax havens here.

One could make the argument that they could be more visible about their location, or the location of their bank, but I also think one should bear in mind that when shopping online, you really have no idea where website is located. So if foreign fees are a concern a little digging may be in order
Withholding taxes. Maybe you should do some basic research before you post about stuff that you have no clue about.
And GOG is absolutely circumventing tax laws IN MULTIPLE countries by using a bank in Cyprus, since the sole purpose for doing so would be WHT circumvention.

So: think before you post.

The sole purpose of using a bank in Cyprus is to bypass withholding tax?

Firek: Thanks for pointing this out, OP (but please refrain from cursing on our forums).
I added the appropriate information to the Website Help page, after consulting it with Destro. It should be enough of a "warning" for future customers about any additional charges which are out of our control.
It wasn't just one bank in one country, but we've gotten only a handful of reports about such international fees, so the notification had to wait in line while Support and the Devs were busy with other things. I hope you guys understand. :)
On the bright side I have never heard from a customer who was charged by GOG.com for more than was stated in his checkout window. :)
Glad there is a warning now but it could be a little more obvious as I still didn't realise today (unless this warning has now been removes), I was happily buying a few games from the UK with a Natwest debit card a few months ago and due to the delay before the Visa transactions went through I was not aware of any charges being added on and I got hit with a few surprise charges - £1 per transaction for fees adds up pretty quickly.

Paypal may add a slight amount to their conversion rate but it is tiny compared to what I was paying.

I love how your entire rant in this thread has been about not knowing that GOG isn't a US site, because you couldn't be bothered to do some basic research, but you're advising me to do so before posting.

Have a mirror.
I would like to see the FTF/outside GOG fee mention in the help page be more prominent or have its own heading
I've read this discussion a little, but don't have time to read every post entirely, so this might have been mentioned already. I found this thread looking for information on these fees.

While I agree that it would be courteous to provide a message informing of the possibility, the responsibility to let you know falls to your financial institution as they're the entity who actually assesses those fees. When you pay with PayPal, you'll get a confirmation email from PayPal and those emails do make mention of possible international transaction fees that may be assessed. If you feel like your financial service provider is not forthcoming enough with said information, I would follow-up with them and ask to be given notification any time these fees are assessed.

I can tell you with some certainty that if you use PayPal in the US, simply take your total and multiply by 1.0084, then take the resulting number at just the first two decimal places neither rounding up nor down. This will ballpark your total within a few cents if not dead on the money. Bear in mind, I notoriously only make small transactions when games go on sale, so this figure might not be accurate at higher dollar amounts.

Edit:
For what it's worth, I thoroughly appreciate the fact that GOG isn't a US company. The business atmosphere here in the US is crooked as hell. A stellar idea like this would never get off the ground in the United States of Fear and Greed.

Another edit:
People who spend a large amount of time commenting on web forums make me very uncomfortable.
