So I didn't really care too much about the rating thing until I started reading the positive black characters in games thread and saw a bunch of people rated down with -1. That's just ridiculous and clearly just abuse of the system. I think some form of moderation should be implemented when ratings are given (+ or -). Weclock, you seem to be getting the brunt of it from what I'm seeing. I see you rated with -1 quite a bit, and undeservedly so. I say kill the current rep system with fire.

Yeah that thread is total abuse and a couple other threads. I could see this kind of system being good on a Sesame Street forum, but not this site. It's really being abused and not worth it's trouble. Just seeing people get bad ratings for not saying anything bad at all (which also happened to me) makes me hesitant to even use these forums anymore. It's not very welcoming, and I feel like its a waste to contribute and maybe get to know some people, when there's a psychopathic rep killer on the loose.

I couldn't agree more. That is why I said what I said earlier in this thread, and why I am against the rep system as it stands now.
People giving negative ratings for the sake of being mean, or whatever it is exactly that's going through their minds, makes us all look like chumps.

The rep system is not only not required, it seems to me that it is also having a negative influence on posting. Why would someone post on these forums if someone dislikes them and they fear losing rep even if they did nothing wrong?
An internal list for the moderators to track spammers, rude people, posters who break the rules etc. is fine. However, in my opinion, being able as a user to rate is a web 2.0 gimmick with more bad than positive aspects.

When I started this thread I never realized how many pluses would be given to posts and how few negatives (although even in this thread there are examples of minuses that prove why we should not have it - which is proof if ever their were proof of needed change, given the subject of this thread in particular :) !!). This tells me that most of us are very sensible and it is the minority that doesn't 'get it'. Such is life in general, I suppose.
In any event, overall, one thing you can say about the message rep system, and that is when you see lots of minuses and pluses at the right of practically every message, you know a lively debate is taking place! So like with most bad things like this message rep system, there is always a silver lining. Problem is, is there a way to widen that silver lining so the whole thing is silver?

That being said, the forum itself seems more like web 0.5 to me. It is, in my opinion, a very, very poor piece of forum software operating here. Why GOG have chosen it, is beyond me. I hope they'll change it soon.

First you've got several replies, which means that the debate is lively, you don't need a score to prove that, in fact a score proves absolutely nothing to the tempo of the debate, just scroll down and read.
Second you're now saying that it's OK to put a - score down as those are the people who obviously don't "get it" so are therefore in a minority.
Am I reading this wrong or is this a open and free system where we score your post accordingly with either a + or - ?

I can score whatever I bloody well like and to have someone come along and tell me (if ever anyone knew it was me who left a - score) that I didn't "get it" would have my size ten boot in their face. How dare you!

I really, really, think you've lost your way John and I would suggest that it is you who just don't "get it" and have become obsessed with this especialy with your new insinuations.

Some people just hate it that I like to help other people. I wonder if they really want me to leave and stop helping people. I help people for fun, if you have a problem with it, speak up about it. I'm no where near max rep, my rep is actually quite small in comparison to how much you can get, upwards about 5 stars!
Anyway, I urge you, if you're minusing my posts to tell me why you don't like them, and why you don't like me, otherwise you're going to have to press that -1 button quite a bit, because no matter how many times you press -1 if I answer one question correctly I get +3 to my total rep score.

For me, personally, I have never, ever stated that people don't deserve scores nor have I ever done anything malicious to try to lower anyones score.
For the record I have always valued your input; it isn't as contrived or hysterically obsessve as others who would claim that we just don't "get it".
