I'm curious to know what peoples favourite games console are.

There is no particular period, retro or modern it does not matter.

I personally like the DS Lite, so I can play my Pokemon Emerald on a backlit screen and have Castlevania. I would have gotten a DSi, but no Gameboy compatibility.
I'll always remember how amazing the dreamcast was when I first played it. That was the last time I've ever been really really impressed with something gaming related.
PC
It has to be PS2 - the king.
Colecovision!

Seriously, what kind of a sick twisted ass clown sadomasocist designed that controller!? It was like trying to play Donkey Kong with a TI-81 Scientific Calculator!

Another vote for the Dreamcast.

I forever regret selling mine :(
For the library, probably the GameCube, although since the Wii plays GameCube games, I suppose the Wii. As far as handhelds go, the DS Lite, since it plays DS games and GBA games. I don't carry mine around anymore, as I use a 3DS for 3DS and DS games and a Game Boy Advance SP for GBA and GB/C games. Backwards compatibility rocks :3

Satan. Satan designed it when he first heard about video gaming, and thought it would be a swell idea to depress any poor kid unfortunate enough to have parents dumb enough to get it. Thank god I didn't grow up in THAT generation of video games...with my luck, my parents would have gotten an even worse knock-off console...

as far as console go, i'm fairly happy with my psp + emulators. 'Course, it gets kinda sad when a snes game runs poorly...
Sega Megadrive.

I was a big Sega fanboy back in the day. Jumping from the likes of an Atari 7800 and a Sega SC-3000 all the way to a Megadrive was mindblowing for me.
Probably the Gamecube. The library is a tad lacking, but the console itself is fantastic.

That generation in general was a freaking awful time to be a gamer. Even the worst DLC based price gouging is nothing compared to coin-ops. Home consoles/computers weren't much better, what with the mountains of shovelware and no way other than word of mouth to know what's good and what's crap.
The Gamecube, Xbox, PS2, GBA, and PC games of the same timeframe.

Mostly because it was the generation I have a more bigger awareness of gaming industry thanks to G4 TV like X-Play among others.

For all time it would be either NES or Dreamcast. Both had great games that I played tons of. The NES probably had more overall, but the Dreamcast was the first console where 3d graphics started really looking good to me. Overall I'll pick the NES with a very slight lead.
PC-Engine / TurboGrafx
Definitely the PS2
PS2 and Super Nintendo
