Vitek: "Parents are present when games are purchased or rented 90 percent of the time."

What? So average gamer is 30 years old and has his parents present when he is purchasing games?
LAWL!!!
I am having a bitch of a time replying to people today, sorry. It seems to be a problem replying to a post with quotes in it.

The forums are working just frigging great since they "upgraded" them...

Here's what I was trying to reply with:

I don't disagree with you there but what I meant was I find it both odd and humorous that games with dildos are okay all things considered. I say that because in this country, there is plenty of PR risk just carrying those and whether Valve pretends to know or not would do little to negate the fallout. I am a little surprised there was no outcry over Saints Row 3 but maybe i missed it or else maybe the folks that would go crazy over the game missed it.

pingu53: Its America, what do you expect? they have serious issues with seeing naked bodies and completely natural things such as sex, but when it comes to violence, gore, guns etc, they're totally fine with it
Personally, if I had kids (I don't), I wouldn't want them doing either the porn thing or the blood and guts thing.

Adults or at least teens are a different story...

Whitecroc: People pay for their porn these days?
Not to mention, they pay for SOFTCORE? :P

KneeTheCap: I find in incredibly odd that Valve, for instance, is perfectly okay with blood, gore and horrible violence, but then games like Seduce Me (http://www.seducemegame.com/) gets banned from Greenlight. Why?
America loves violence but fears sex. It's pretty stupid.

The funny thing is that despite our sexual repression sex is still everywhere in our media, it's just treated as naughty and not really shown or explained in any kind of detail. This actually leads to higher levels of sexual deviance, as teens and shallow adults search for attention through deviancy or experiment endlessly due to a lack of guidance.

Well, some people want their stuff (even porn) legally...

What's the difference between listening to music on youtube and watching porn on redtube?

It's the same thing legally. Unless you are not using youtube at all (almost every youtube vid violates copyrights, even when it's just a music playing in the background of some video blog), you shouldn't be preaching here...

Not to mention, it's not "criminal" to watch copyrighted material on youtube or redtube.

And by buying porn you are supporting abuse of women! when watching for free, you, well... watch :P

Inteteresting fact which may spin this thread way off topic: When Paul V. made the original "Starship Troopers" he specifically wanted an 'R' rating so people didn't think it was some silly cartoon. He kept adding dacapitations and still nothing above PG-13. So he threw in some nudity. Nothing. He threw in some more nudity and some 'making out'. Nothing. Finally he broke down and threw in some cursing (which totally went against the environment of the book and movie) and BAM! He got his 'R'.
I'd be all over that game, constantly screaming http://static.tumblr.com/ie1iyxl/GSpmegway/now_kiss.png

(no, not really. Funny screencaps on that site tho)

sheepdragon: It's fucking retarded. Murder, destruction and mayhem is more accepted than the human body and procreation.
Hey now, while I don't disagree, we have a valid excuse. We are a country founded in decent part by religious zealots and criminals; that's why you guys kicked us out of Europe, right?! What do ya expect? ;)

Anyway, yeah, this is old news. Anything else I could say on topic about US laws has already been said a few times.
GOG should start selling erotic games. I'm against GOG selling games that are outright pornographic, but erotic ones - yes please ! :D No other DD site that I know of sells them, so GOG could cash in on this niche.

I haven't played Saint's Row 3, so I don't know if there was anything to be outraged about. I'll just say that since FoxNews ridiculed themselves over that Mass Effect controversy, the media seem to have been a bit reluctant to attack big mainstream games over sexual content.

However, there is a difference between selling a game that has some sexual content in it and selling a game that is all about the sexual content. In the first case, easily offended conservatives would be much more likely to blame whoever made the game (I don't remember anyone blaming the stores that sold GTA when the whole "Hot Coffee" thing happened), while in the second case they'd be much more likely to blame whoever sold it.

Fair point.
Amazing that this game gets all the controversy while these:

Passed by almost unnoticed.
