I don't like collectible card games - they are too freaking expensive. But card games like Nightfall or other deck building games (all cards are in the box, you just need to build your deck during game) are awesome.
Unfortunately, no: I have no friends that want to spend time on this kind of stuff....
Big fan of the stuff Fantasy Flight Games puts out. Love Mansions of Madness, Arkham Horror, Civilization, Twilight Imperium etc. Also like CCG like Magic: The Gathering and I'm a huge Tabletop Role-playing buff. I'm a big fan of World of Darkness (core and Mage in particular), DnD 3.5e and 4e, Call of Cthulhu and Shadowrun!
So, I bought my first more serious title - Forbidden Island. I'm pretty satisfied with the purchase, because it came out pretty cheap for brand new game (2013 reprint). We played 2 games yesterday on a beginner level. The first one we lost, the second we won without bigger problems.

I guess it has something to do with luck - Water Rise cards were luckily placed in the deck, so we managed to snatch the treasures before shit went too bad :P

Next game will be on higher difficulty level.
Hey guys, I just wanted to say that me and my friends went out to another board games meeting yesterday, and again... It was simply amazing.

We only managed to play Small World and Munchkin (card game), because it was already late in the evening, but man it was awesome.

I liked both games, I really am considering buying them in the future. Small World charmed me with its simple mechanics, variability and quality of all game elements. Really, really good game.

I was amazed by Munchkin too :D Very funny game, lots of cards, simple mechanics but with a fun twist (stealing from your mates, empowering monsters he fights against etc is awesome :D). All you need to do is to encourage people you play with to use some negative interaction more often (some people don't feel good with stabbing others in their backs)

It was 10/10 night and I hope there will be more. And probably there will be more.
Smallworld is a lot of fun. Last time we played, I was in last place until I managed to nab "flying pixies" in the second to last round. Doubled my score in just two turns and catapulted into first place.

My friends still go around muttering "flying pixies!" as a curse.

haha :D We played for the first time, so we managed to play only once (it took us a while to get around that colorful board and all the stuff that comes with the game), so we didn't come up with any clever tactics.

Although my girlfriend had Swamp Wizards (or how you translate that), so she got crazy amounts of points for all her swamp and magical territories. I'm sure we'll play again.
This.

Is.

Awesome.

Read it.
I love Monopoly.

FACT: Over half of my personal board game closet space is taken up by different editions of Monopoly, including 60th and 70th Anniversary, Lord of the Rings, Batman, Nintendo (the first release, it's a bit different now), Here & Now, and the latest edition with all 5 new pieces and the previous 8. Even the iron.

I'm also fond of Chess (and Nightmare Chess), Scrabble, and Risk.

Quiddler, Phase 10, Five Crowns, and Mille Bornes are some pretty neat card-based games I'm into.

Small World is definitely a lot of fun. And yes, it manages to pack a lot of punch in to a simple set of rules. There are a few little expansions that add a few more races and special powers to the mix, too. And you might want to check out Evo by the same designer. http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/107255/evo-second-edition

There are some similarities, and with added auction bidding for evolutionary enhancements for the dinosaurs.
If you're interested in Battlestar Galactica for the cooperation aspect, then I might suggest checking out Castle Panic. It's another cooperative game where the players are defending a central castle from waves of goblins, orcs, and ogres swarming in from all around it. It doesn't have the treachery of BSG, but it plays much quicker and is cheaper. A game rarely lasts more than an hour. The games hits my table pretty frequently and manages to stay tense even though we usually manage to win most of the games.
I like puerto Rico. Resource trading game. Power grid is fun if you are patient. I can never get into carcassonne. Played 7 wonders only once but really liked it.

And if you're also interested in card games... Phase 10 is fun, but my fav is Dutch blitz!

I'll second the above mention of Castle Panic, which is also an inexpensive game to pick up. There's an expansion that's also worth picking up down the road if you like how the game plays.

I can't remember if I've mentioned it previously, but look in to Blood Bowl : Team Manager. It's basically Blood Bowl in card game format. Inexpensive, fun, and with enough change from game to game that it won't get old. Also just had an expansion come out adding more teams and new play options.
To all guys who played 7 wonders - how to do manage games with score sheet? I think it's pretty impractical to play with pencil and a rubber...

I thought I would second your endorsement of Munchkin. My friends and I used to play it quite a bit several years back. A great game when you want to play something that will make you laugh.
