The reviews so far seem to indicate that the game is in fact not bad.
Gamerankings:

GameSpot 8.5 out of 10
RPGFan 90 out of 100

IGN has so far only reviewed the 360 and PS3 versions, but gave those a 9.0
So, pleasantly surprised?
Don't care about the console versions, but RPS says good for the PC version and that's the review I only care about:

Yeah, I like RPS but I don' t use their so called reviews for anything more than an indicator.
I care more about the average of the reviews, if they tend to score it between 7 and 10 it's probably decent.
If I need more than that after seeing some trailers and the average, I'll download a demo (legally or illegally).
I don't really care about the official reviews (Fallout 3 got similar/better scores, and I bounced off that horrible, horrible thing, for example), but the reactions of people who played the, uh, unofficial PC demo were overwhelmingly positive, so that's a good indicator.

Was not impressed to read about "Boss Fights" being included, but meh, the game will be awesome nonetheless

It's great news if quicksave/quickload really is included :D

EDIT: spelling

Smannesman: So, pleasantly surprised?
Not really, no matter how faithful it might or might not be is to the original game, and how much it might or not suffer from it's console origin, it still was considered in most preview/tests/"unofficial" tests are a good game in it's own right, so no it's not really a surprise.

EDIT: Haven't read the reviews yes, I just hope they corrected the PC controls. (same key for killing or stunning and same key to search or drag bodies)

Yeah, this. A game getting good reviews may not necessarily be a good indicator of a good game, but a game, especially a multiplatform one, that has a sizable part of the Codex hyped up...well that should be taken note of with great interest.

Yeah I kinda went "awww" when I read that too. I mean, Walton Simons is sort of a boss, as are Gunther Hermann and Anna Navarre, but they just soak up more damage than your average grunt. I hope the boss fights don't extend into the ridiculous territory.

do you guys think the price of DX HR will drop like a rock in the next few months?

I mean there was a deal going on...this was like a month ago or 2....DX HR was $30 at green man gaming.....and you can activate it through steam, since it is a steamworks game
I just played 3 hours of it. It's pretty awesome. The varied ways to play from the original is totally there... stealth, gunfighter, melee... all accessible and built into the level design. Story seems good, dialogue and acting are excellent. Lots to look around and see and you are rewarded with exp and items. Hacking seems really cool... I talked myself out of a fight and it seemed like I really had to pay attention to what I said to be successful, which was awesome.

Game REALLY feels like a PC game, which is awesome. Mouse pointer control on computers, keypads, newspapers and more. Typing for passwords, PERFECT menus, hotbar... it's everything they advertised on that score.

Downsides so far are meh graphics, especially in outdoor areas, and the atrocious load times. Also I get a little stutter when I zoom aim, but that might be my comp. Oh and the load times are horrible.

All in all it seems like a freaking awesome game so far. It's not the original carbon copied and given better graphics though. It has a lot of modern tweaks and changes, but keeps the core gameplay. If you can handle that you should buy it.

Can't wait to wake up and play more!

Did I get this right: they got their copies of HR earlier this week, and now the reviewer has already completed the game?

I hope it means something else, like that he played the game for at least a week or two with a pre-release copy. Well, maybe magazine reviewers use cheat codes etc. to run through the game as quickly as possible, they have no time to dabble with all the review deadlines etc.
Exactly what I was expecting, I knew the game would be good. :P
I still have to wait until Friday before I can play it, despite it being completely preloaded on Steam, and a retail collectors edition due to arrive tomorrow.

*sigh!*

No, the release copies have been sent for around 3 weeks now, and it was pre-launch code; it's just that there's been an embargo set on the reviews regarding the date on which they could be published due to that exclusive with... erm, missing the name of the magazine.

Nope, still the same key for killing/stunning and search/drag based on how long you press it. And you know what? It works great!
