Will Day of the Tentacle be the next LucasArts/Telltale remake?
Adventure games maniacs rejoice! :-P
Looks like it is.
Oh... rejoice and buy en masse (finally a worthy cause for my vidgame money....) the new Monkey Island games as well....
What about the original Maniac Mansion?
Day of the Tentacle was one of my favorite games as a kid, so I might actually pick this up.
Will the remakes possibly come with the original versions as a bonus, too?
I hope not, I don't want to see my favorite adventure game turned into a butchered remake, or a soulless spin-off.
And how bout releasing the originals, LA? Do these games REALLY need to be remade?

RSHabroptilus: What about the original Maniac Mansion?

While they're at it, how about a remake of Labyrinth, their ancient C64/Apple game based on the film of the same name?
The first game was OK if difficult to play, but I am sure that Telltale could do very awesome things with the cast of the Labyrinth.

Nothing needs to be remade, but the characters and humour from Monkey Island are simple and timeless.
The old Lucasarts games are now too old to be appreciated by the XBox generation. Even if all of us hate it, I think it's great that newer gamers will get a chance to experience classic adventure gaming again.

THIS:
I would give it a try though.
I was not really that interested in the monkey island games, the gameplay just doesn't seem like it'd be able to keep me, Day of the Tentacle is probably very similar but I will give this a chance.

Remaking DOTT would be different from remaking TSOMI. DOTT has superb cartoony graphics, and the characters are that bit larger than in Monkey Island, that means they really have some definition. I would hope that they will adhere closely to the graphics of the original, only make it HD. Hell, with that graphic style, they could make it vector-based, so it would scale accurately in all resolutions.
Here's a small sample, made with Vector Magic.

Don't forget that you can play Maniac Mansion IN Day of the Tentacle, using the computer inside the mansion. Let's just hope it will be in the remake, even unchanged.
Oh, and by the way: surprising video...

Started to drool already.
The shortly upcoming Monkey Island release is likely to generate enough attention and income that LucasArts really can't overlook the possibility of doing similar refurbishings of other older titles.
Remember; this is a refurbishing of the original game, NOT a remake. Everything is to the letter except improved graphics, sound, and user interface in the upcoming release.
You can switch between the new and the classic version with a simple keypress, allowing you to see the difference, or just play the classic if you so wish.
So the upcoming Monkey Island release is both a new release of the classic and a release of a whole new "Monkey Island MKII" version in the same package.

Even if I understand what you mean, "remake" doesn't necessary mean that a game is rebuild entirely in 3D or whatever...
For this one, when you play in "new" mode, graphics have been remade, music has been remade, voices have been made... in this mode, you don't see or hear any original stuff... technically, it is a remake.

Yeah, those look great, and I agree with you, DOTT's art style would go perfect with vector graphics.
They won't do that though. Everything has to be in THRAY DAY now, remember?

I've always adhered to the thought that if the core content is unchanged but enhanced then its a remake, if the core content changes then its a re-imagining (aka: colossal fuckup that exploits the nostalgia of the title while it pisses on the very thing that made it special)
