Shoelip: Damn man, you already have two stars and the most posts of anyone on the forum. You don't need to spam.

Weclock: No, but I thought it was pretty funny.

Do you think eating spaghetti is funny?!

Only if it's living while I do so.

You make me sick! We should banish you! With death!
Wouldn't that just make it an execution?

Aliasalpha: Wouldn't that just make it an execution?

Hm, well what if it was death by a thousand paper cuts?

Throw in some lemon juice and we could have an entertaining evening of viewing ahead!

And some random disgusting bodily fluid that makes paper cuts hurt more!

My favourite is still trampling by ducks.
Yeah I've got to admit that it IS a pretty compelling option. The job gets done, ducks are cute and they'll almost certainly poo all over him as they're trampling

SirKicksalot: WBGhiro - I think they will recreate Dante's imagery, at least. It's Dante's Inferno, after all.

They said the same thing with many things (the most recent: fallout 3 as Shoelip mentioned) but did they really recreate the same imagery? or just cut out or dumbed down, everything too complex and added nice explosions?
avatar
SirKicksalot: So here's a question (more liek three, amirite?): has Dante himself paid respect to his ancestors' beliefs, when he included all those mythological monsters and locations?

Now you have to understand something, in the times Dante lived you couldn't criticiza god or religion, else you're a heretic and that really wasn't nice at that time; this is why there is more christian propaganda, than criticism after all it was a book wirtten to describe how great god is and how awful wrong you are if you're not a christian.
this said, of course everythingbefore christianism is plain wrong and evil (the greek mythological creatures have become the christian demons), Dante was one of the few who opposed (indirectly) to this idea but he still had to place them in hell, because they didn't believe in the right God; i'd really reccomend you to read the chant about ullyses and maybe you'll understand better.
avatar
SirKicksalot: Even more, did he pay respect to Christianity by mixing it up with pagan myths?

that's what christianity is actually, as Nafe mentioned, a mix of paganism
avatar
SirKicksalot: Can you really meditate about Christianity, while being inspired by a book featuring Cerberus and Medusa - which simultaneously talks about pagans' punishment?

in short Yes and that's actually the point, i can't really explain it with my own words, since it's pretty complicated i'd reccomend asking a dedicated forum or a person familiar with The Divine commedy.
Also i don't think they'll add Heaven as a game, you can't kill anything there.

Nafe: Now see (and I'm possibly displaying my massive ignorance of the subject) I was under the impression that was done by the Romans. Didn't they steal various pagan traditions and shove them in as part of Christianity? Winter Solstice = Christmas?

You're right, but then everybody did the same. I think every nation today has at least one Christian tradition that can be linked back to their ancestors' pagan traditions.
WB - great answer:P Well, Jade Empire managed to make you kill things in Heaven. They can pull the card of demon invasion and voila, heavenly ass-kicking!

That's true about Jade Empire, and seeing the writers of the game feel they can do anything they want and still call it The Divine Comedy.
I don't think it was really that you can't kill anything in heaven, more like there is nothing to kill. Demons can't go to heaven, otherwise it wouldn't be heaven, it'd still be purgatory or limbo..
Most demons in hell have a specific purpose of tormenting a specific group of people (in the book), so it's not possible sticking to the book's mythology for there to be any ass kicking in heaven.

Jade Empire's heaven was only A heaven rather than THE heaven though, more of a discrete dimension rather than an afterlife.
Here's HOPING that figure is not final... Why would they be hawking an action figure if it's not the final design though? I presume those are actually for sale
