Valyou: The second I saw this title, I knew what I had to post here...
Well, there's this particularly interesting and extremely unique game created by a couple of the guys behind Earthworm Jim, but this one's extremely different. It's a point-and-click adventure game called The Neverhood, and its main style choice is a interesting one; claymation. The game's visuals are 99% claymation, no fancy CGI of any kind. The story is rather interesting, taking place in a surreal floating land called The Neverhood, with a story kinda based off of Bible stories in some ways. It's really sad how much love was put into the game's cinematics, music, and just everything the game has to offer, and because they put so much love in it, they thought it would be a huge hit. Alas, it wasn't, which is why I post this. Seriously, check it out, it's fantastic!
I second this motion. I loved it too

Wishbone: Oh, and Sanitarium too.
I can vouch for Sanitarium. Russian game "The Void" is awesome.

Oh there's also Robosaurus vs the Space Bastards, though maybe it's not criminally overlooked, just overlooked and unknown to most.

Strijkbout: Yes the sound in the video is a bit choppy too, so it seems that it has some compatibility issues. That's just too bad I would really like to play this game, can't get hold of it anywhere though, I really like those arcadelike shooters, at least when they're good like Raptor or this one. :)
I got the same "snapping sound" in both Windows XP and Win7 as in that Youtube video. I've yet to try it if I get it also on genuine Win98SE system, but apart from the intro music where it is quite audible, it isn't that bad IMHO during the gameplay, and I could get used to it.

But to the ultra speed, I can't get used to. :)
After playing this game for the first four missions, I can safely say: Trapped Dead.
I know it's only an indie title, plus it is included in the Indie Gala so maybe people do know about the game, but before buying the gala I held back purchasing the game separately despite its interesting setting because of its low metascore (only 50), and poor reviews. It's bashed for technical issues and such, but I thoroughly enjoy it nevertheless. Sure, it's very stiff, sometimes the controls are unresponsive, the voice acting is AWFUL and therefor, although it's trying to be serious, the game has a certain campy vibe that I think isn't intentional. But despite these problems, I really like the game! You've gotta be careful conserving ammo or you'll be in trouble; the teammates have limited inventory space so you gotta organize, and you'll need to avoid larger battles because it's easy to get overwhelmed and lose lots of health unnecessarily.

I know there's Dead Rising and Dead Island and what not, but out of the zombie games I've played, this one feels the most like a genuine zombie apocalypse survival game. I wonder how the co-op is, now that I have three characters and not just, you know, myself. I've got the shotgun surgeon, a mexican pistolero and a fat sheriff with an axe, who will finish the zombies I shoot to their knees with the mexican guy.
Another one I forgot about:

Solar Winds

Moby: http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/solar-winds-the-escape

I'm not even sure it was very good, but I played the shareware version many years ago and enjoyed it.

And another:

Shadowcaster.

I'll second the whole post -- since you named every game I would have (and a few I didn't remember), I'm going to trust your judgement on the rest as well.

Daynov: Off the top of my head Clive Barker's Undying and Condemned: Criminal Origins, although I won't use "criminally" in both cases, just underrated.
I wouldn't say that either of those games are overlooked. However, they are both fantastic. Especially Condemned.

Personally I'd list Timeshift as being pretty overlooked and/or underrated. Chasm: The Rift and Vivisector: Beast Inside (both made by the same guys who did Cryostasis) are both loads of fun, if a little rough around the edges, and deserve to be played more.
Iji is a freeware game, and its one of the coolest platformers iv ever played (freeware or not). Its kindv like what deus ex might be like as a platformer:

Cybermage: Darlight Awakening. To be honest, never played this one before but got curious about it after seeing some videos. As far as I can tell, seems like a mix of 2.5D Shooter with RPG. Cool comic-book character and scenario design as well. The futuristic setting reminded me of Ranxerox for some reason.
