Hello,

I'm creating this thread as a means to get attention to lesser known or just simply overlooked games. This is not just a blatant attempt to get more votes, but also to bring it under the attention of the GOG team, because there may be some opportunities here. Also this topic is open for anyone to contribute. The only rules I think should apply that the game didn't got a lot of attention and that it was released for the PC more than 5 years ago, otherwise it is simply not long enough out there to be overlooked. Also don't just say a game and that's it, but provide some information and why you think this game is underrated and or overlooked.

With that said, I will kick off with a few.

AI Wars: The Awakening

This game is extremely rare and so unheard of that is has the honor to be on the top of the list. From what I know and read about the game is that it is a first person shooter (though perspective might be more appropriate) which has some similarities with Tron 2.0 and System Shock. It is a cyberpunk title where you have to hack into computers and retrieve information. I couldn't even find YouTube videos of it, that is perhaps the best indication of how rare this game is.

Hard Truck: Apocalypse

Although this game was quite succesful in the eastern parts of Europe, it hardly got any attention in the rest of the world, which is a shame because this game is fun as hell. Gameplay is a bit like Elite but with trucks. It also has a sequel.

A.I.M.: Artificial Intelligence Machines

Mostly the same I wrote for Hard Truck applies for A.I.M., saw some succes in the east but none in the rest of the world though it is a very good game. This time think of Elite but with hovercraft :). This game also got a sequel and also a racing game based on it.

The Reap

This Zaxxon clone must have been totally forgotten by now, but what do I regret not having bought this game when I had the chance, especially after watching THIS!

Off the top of my head Clive Barker's Undying and Condemned: Criminal Origins, although I won't use "criminally" in both cases, just underrated.

1C Company are already on GOG (Perimeter, King's Bounty, Fantasy Wars), so A.I.M isn't an unrealistic request.

@Daynov and Rohan15: I adjusted my OP a little, please also provide the link to vote for it. ;) I hope so, also haven't played Cryostasis yet, but it looks like it's a game that I might like. :)

The Marathon trilogy, hands down. While originally Macintosh exclusive, they're all freeware through the 'AlephOne' source port, for modern Linux, Windows and Mac systems. The second and third instalments are a blast to play on AlpehOne, but If you're gonna play the first one, at least use a Macintosh OS 9 emulator. It's a shame they're a bitch to find in their full, complete-in-box form, because the packaging the Marathon games came in are quite a marvel. Both the AlephOne and the original Mac files are available for free actually, I'll post a couple links down below.

Of the games on the first message, I've ever only heard of The Reap, which I also own. Albeit, "AI Wars" seems to ring some bell too, but maybe I am mixing it up with some other game with a similar name.

There was the recent discussion about The Reap in GOG, so to recap:

The installer does not work in Win7 64bit, but if you install and patch the game in WinXP and then move the game files to your Win7 system, it seems to work quite well.

Except for one thing: the game runs too fast, at least for me. Compared to that Youtube video, it runs maybe two or three times as fast. I am not sure if it is scrolling any faster, just that all the objects (enemies, bullets etc.) move much faster. It is barely playable, but too hard obviously.

I haven't experimented with e.g. CPU cores (this is a double core system) or checked vsync, whethet they might affect the speed. Or, I can't be sure if the speed difference is due to Win7 (vs XP or earlier).

EDIT: It also occurred to me whether this is because the WinXP machine, where I originall installed it, is much slower than the target Win7 machine. Ie., the game sets the game speed upon installation based on CPU speed, or something?

Gothic series!!!!!!! (Gothic 2 seems the best for meh)

Hmmm, there are so many underrated games. And at the same time, so many overrated ones.

I think Riddick series were quite underrated. I completely fell in love with Escape From Butchers Bay, it was easily one of the best FPS ive ever played. And trust me, ive played A LOT of them. It was really interesting, it had a stealth mechanic that actually worked well for an FPS (reminded me of Thief in that aspect), a great melee system, which worked perfectly well (to be honest, i still havent seen an FPS with a melee system as good as this one, maybe Zeno Clash comes close), shooting was pretty good too and trying to find a way to escape the prison was really fun.

I liked the demo for Dark Athena, but i still havent played the full game.

Riddick series made me fall in love with Starbreeze. I love their games. I liked even Knights of the Temple (which was overlooked too in my opinion) and im enjoying Syndicate a lot. I bought Syndicate on pre order simply because its from Starbreeze, and i trust them, even though their current team is pretty different from the ones that made Riddick.

Yes the sound in the video is a bit choppy too, so it seems that it has some compatibility issues. That's just too bad I would really like to play this game, can't get hold of it anywhere though, I really like those arcadelike shooters, at least when they're good like Raptor or this one. :)

The second I saw this title, I knew what I had to post here...
Well, there's this particularly interesting and extremely unique game created by a couple of the guys behind Earthworm Jim, but this one's extremely different. It's a point-and-click adventure game called The Neverhood, and its main style choice is a interesting one; claymation. The game's visuals are 99% claymation, no fancy CGI of any kind. The story is rather interesting, taking place in a surreal floating land called The Neverhood, with a story kinda based off of Bible stories in some ways. It's really sad how much love was put into the game's cinematics, music, and just everything the game has to offer, and because they put so much love in it, they thought it would be a huge hit. Alas, it wasn't, which is why I post this. Seriously, check it out, it's fantastic!

Fun strategy game, it seems to have been forgotten by a lot of people. It even has multiplayer, which I never tried at the time. I'd love to see it on GOG, but I don't think you can legally get it anywhere.

Spellcross, an interesting TBS with a fantasy/modern day mixup theme. Hardly perfect, but still quite fun.

Gothic series, Risen, Armed and Dangerous, Iron Grip Warlord, Call of Cthulhu and Sniper Elite
