Why are there so many explosions? Did Michael Bay direct this, hehe.
Too bad Basil Poledouris is dead. The music in the first movie was awesome (and so was the movie). I'm kinda expecting the new one to have a boring soundtrack.

Modern movie fighting sequences look like dancing to me. I wish they'd make some with more of a blunt approach.

Arteveld: Let's hope they won't f#$k this up, i mean, as simple as the Conan universum seems, it's pretty easy to bork, especially with the standard set by the Arnie movies. I wonder if it'll fit the books and the music won't be "too christian". ;D
The folks from the official Conan forums aren't pleased with this. It'll take me forever to go through on what's wrong with the whole process, starting with a bunch of jokers trying to acquire the rights to film it, but suffice to say, it's likely that it will have fuck all to do with the original stories (besides a few inspirational lines being directly adapted into the film).

Weclock: I showed the original to my fiance a few nights back.
she loved it.

I still want to watch the new one though.
Weclock finally returns?
Damn. Armageddon is upon us.

If it is Conan, then it can't be a really bad movie.

Delixe: And yes I think Momoa is perfect casting.
His voice sounds like how I'd imagine Conan to be in real life, what with all the bellowing and ejaculating, but he's still too scrawny. In Red Nails, Conan stood beside Olmec and was described as having a "remarkable muscular development [with] great shoulders [...] as broad as those of Olmec, and more cleanly outlined, and his huge breast arched with a more impressive sweep to a hard waist that lacked the paunchy thickness of Olmec's midsection."

Momoa may be well built and cleanly cut, but when it comes to one who could singlehandedly lift a massive silver bench, hurl it full force at a black demon and cause the demon to be flung backwards into a fireplace....that requires a good stretch of imagination.

If I had a choice (which I sadly don't), I would pick Knut A Haugen, who did the soundtrack for AOC. IMO it fits Howard's narration of a (debatable) romantic, savage period.

MichaelFurlong: I would say that Arnold's Barbarian was heavily inspired and based on the books, his character matches the Conan from the books, his interests are selfish, first he acts as a thief and bounty hunter and then he wants vengeance for a grievance.
Ah, but in the stories, he was highly intelligent, albeit naive in his younger days. He was more of the primitive sort, having lived in the grey mountains of Cimmeria all his life until he tired of it and went south, but never once was he found to have gone into a situation without a thorough analysis of the situation. Tower of the Elephant, one of the earliest stories, showed this: Conan was insulted, and would have "slunk away, abashed" if the Kothian had not physically provoked Conan - which Conan promptly responded by stabbing him. His later venture with Taurus also proved that he possessed a sharp intelligence (though not as wise as Taurus') and keen senses. OTOH, Ahnuld's Conan's responses often bewilder, like punching the camel in the face, or crying out to Thulsa Doom "You killed my father! You killed my mother!" (Howard's Conan would have spat in Thulsa Doom's face, smile grimly, then tell him "Unshackle me, dog, and I will show you what power is.")

There is also something else that is inexplicably off about CtB that I can't put in exact words right now. The closest thing that I can probably relate it to is the lack of believability. I personally found it hard to relate to the characters - I like Mako for example, but found him annoying in the movie. And Sandahl Bergman wasn't a bad Valeria, but again I just didn't really feel a sense of connection with her.

That may be, but he is about as big as you are going to get while still being an actor. If you want bigger then you have to start looking at sports and people like Dwayne Johnson.

THIS......sometimes things in books just cannot be attained using actors alone.....even the ones most suited to the roles will likely fall short in some way.
Yeah, nobody over there was really griping about Momoa after some shots were leaked. He wasn't massive, and it was disappointing that the crew didn't give him a square mane cut, but those were the least of the concerns. Even the fact that Momoa's eyes weren't "smoldering blue coals" was fine.

No, the bigger concerns involved the fancy pancy moves that the movie seems to be adopting (following Ahnuld's famous sword wielding practice scene), an awful leaked script written by "Doppenheimer", Marcus Nispel's awful track record, that none of the producers had read a single Conan story...

There raises two issues: will it be a good movie, and how close will it be to the source material? The first remains to be seen; the second has already been answered.
As soon as you see the dumbass slow motion take of him ducking backward as a thrown knife swooshes by in slow motion, you know this movie is going to be shit. And then you see him doing some XMA stupid ass jumping around martial arts with his sword held backwards, and then you cry.

I'd rather watch Red Sonja than this.
