An environmental group has revealed that the caramel coloring used in Pepsi still contains a concerning level of a carcinogen, even after the company said it would change its formula.

In March, PepsiCo Inc. and Coca-Cola Co. said they would adjust their formulas across the U.S. after California passed a law ruling drinks with a certain level of carcinogens display a cancer warning.

The chemical is 4-methylimidazole, or 4-Mel, which can form during the cooking process and may subsequently be found in trace amounts in many foods.

Watchdog group The Center for Environmental Health found that while Coke products no longer test positive for the chemical, Pepsi products sold outside of California still do.

You took the words out of my mouth.
We all end up dead anyway, might as well enjoy the trip
Why would anyone be drinking Coke or Pepsi anyway?

I remember hearing about that... more than a year ago, it's not exactly something new.

But in the end you have probably a much higher risk of dying because of the ridiculous amount of sugar (or because of the "we have no idea what it does to human body in the long run" aspartame) and/or because of the caffeine than having a cancer.

I don't think cancer is an enjoyable way to end the trip...
Stopped drinking soda about 7-8 months ago.

But yeah, everything gives you cancer nowadays.

And the more carcinogenic things you get in your body, the worse it is for you (higher risk of developing cancer). So while a lot of things are carcinogenic, lowering your exposure to carcinogenic things is still good for you.
Bread contains the same chemical. Especially if it has been industrially made. The fast baking process used to reduce the baking time also increases the amount carcinogenic traces. It is also in crisps and fries (in quite large amounts) and in everything else that has been fried. Caramel sweets are also major offenders.

So if you want to be worried for your health because of drinking some kind of cola, it shouldn't be because of the caramel color, but because you are actually drinking an unhealthy amount of acid! And huge amounts of sugar. Or artificial sweeteners, if you go for the 'light' product, which are way more carcinogenic than the small amount of caramel.

Yes. But the worst danger of drowning comes from the industrial solvent known as DHMO.

Cancer is, for most an absolutely brutal disease you insensitive clod. Have you seen people that suffer from it? Some don't show many signs, some don't suffer any pains (like those with brain cancer) but for most it's a really painful experience. Every minute is agony.

Once you see that, you will understand why some of them simply jump off the window just to end it.
