HertogJan: Lack of time from GOG is probably the main issue why the wish list is a mess.
avatar
Wishbone: Well, as long as we're only talking about removing the titles that have already been released on GOG, I could do that in 15 minutes, given access to their database. So I don't think it's that they don't have time for it, they probably just don't see it as a big issue.

With lack of time I meant they're probably busy working on new releases, getting the site to 1.0, etc.
Who knows, we might not just get a site update but also a wish list update.

Miaghstir: You're not planning to take all the votes for stuff like Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Windows 95, various console games, and games already here and put them into Planescape: Torment, are you? I mean... that may be seen as slightly dishonest.

No that would be very dishonest indeed! I'd just delete those and add a 0 to the end of the planescape counter, much less dishonest (after all, a 0 doesn't really matter does it?)

It depends which "end" of the counter you add it to ;)
How about we ask GOG.com to change the rules for the wishlist: for example the user should have to attach the Wikipedia or (even better) Mobygames link to the desired game, so the system could check that this game is already placed. Resulting that only one unique game is present to have total votes.
When something good happens like Outcast reveal, the system could stop the voting process for this particular game and transferred it to a special dream-come-true-list.
Maybe not the best idea, but the wishlist should be sorted out.
^Could probably hook something like that up with bansama's site.
Some sort of moderation of the wishlist would be nice.
1. Get rid of games listed that are already on GOG.
2. Merge duplicates (Do we really need Ultima7, Ultima 7:The Black Gate, Ultima 7 Deluxe etc) you get the idea.
3. Delete obvious stupidity. People that vote for new games like the latest Prince of Persia or Mass Effect 2 for instance.
4. Get rid of fakes. There are obvious games there in the list that don't even exist like Freelancer 2.

Yes, a moderator who will check all queries and post the resulting game available for voting. Something like that.
So we have a two stage process:
1. Pre-clearance (where moderator checks for existence and uniqueness of the game)
2. Actual voting (where registered users could put their votes for the desired game)
And we can get a picture with a list of about 100 games available and thousand pending requests for preliminary check.

Why does everyone think entries like those are obvious stupidity? Yes the games are new(er), but they will be old someday and it is a wish list, so people are going to put games they wish GOG to eventually have on it. The fact that they are wishing for a game that they won't likely see for a few years shouldn't matter. In 5 years, when those games are old, would it be less stupid to add them? If so, does it really matter if they are on there now?

Well personally with how cluttered the wishlist is, I think it is a bit daft. These games are available on retail easily and will still be easily available for a while. I'm sure there are games that people want that are either near impossible to get, or don't want to sell off vital organs to satisfy the greed of some of the Ebay types out there.

It's less daft than the misspellings, repetition and other random stuff.
Because of GOGs no-DRM model, I'd like to see all games on here. That way, I don't have to bother with disc-checks, online activations or whatever other gubbins publishers cover their games with.
For something like Assassins Creed 2, it would be nice to see that here in a few years time. I'd actually consider getting it if it was available without DRM.
There is a way to clean the fucklist: Put all GOG games on. Then you won't want use it.
I'll do it in some weeks if this is still not repaired.

Sure, it would be nice if the wishlist was cleaned up. But I think that should be on the low end of GOG's list of priorities, and the garbage entries really won't make the wishlist that much harder for them to use. All they have to do is not pay attention to stupid entries, which rarely get enough votes anyway.
Please include the console games on the purge list.,unless they had a PC port.

The wishlist was once a great idea, that I used a lot. The last half year, I only used it when I stumbled over an old title mentioned somewhere else.
Basically, it's that much filled up with garbage, that it's about to loose it's usefulness.
It is, apart from writing a review to a released game, the only and most important tool we as users / community have. I don't see that one on the low end of priorities.
There's no doubt the wishlist IS useful. I regard myself as having a good memory, but while voting for games there are times I've come across games that someone has listed and thought "Oh, forgot that, I'll vote for it too". It's just a shame that its getting cluttered.
The biggest issue is with games that have been rereleased in Deluxe editions (IE Complete X-Wing/Tie-Fighter, or games that have expansion packs whether they are standalone expansions or require the original game.
