Interesting, I was playing Civ III just before came here. I don´t have a favorite one, but love all the ancient civs from Mesophotamy region. (like Babylon, Sumerians, Phoenicians). But if I would appoint one, I´d say the Achaemenid empire (or the first Persian empire - about 550 BC). Besides being an empire (what implies conquists, lots of wars and blood), I really admire Cyrus heir. They used to respect the others cultures which were "conquered", making a rich and diversity cultural empire. Just for know: most people believe that the Roman empire was the "biggest" (well, its easy understand it because much from the called east culture, in many aspects such as law and military enviroment, came from there). But the Persian empire (they used to call themselves as Iran or Achaemenid) was the biggest one (cultural, military, territorial and commercial)

Mongols around the time of Genghis Khan. I was always amazed how they quickly amassed the largest land empire in such a short time. Then lost it quickly as well.

As for a favourite civ. I would say it's Roman republic in it's late period. To be more precise during the times of Gaius Marius.

I'd like to enter, if that's okay with you... the Civ games have been my favorite series since I first had my four floppy Atari ST version back in the day, (see my avatar!) but due to things being tight I haven't had a chance to pick up V yet.

As for my favorite civilization and time period - I'm going to go with France in the age of Charlemagne. I've always found it fascinating that while the rest of Europe floundered in the dark ages he was able to forge an empire of incredible size and scope, while having an enlightened view on the need for education and advancement of knowledge amongst the people.

Thank you dearly for this giveaway! I've been looking to get this as a birthday gift for my friend, so this is most fortuitous for me!

Favourite civilization, huh? Well, Ancient Greece and Rome have sort of appealed to me. I guess I kind of have the Asterix books and Greco-Roman Mythology to thank for that. Though, I do like the architecture and the war machines and the societal advances as well.
