cogadh: I used to think that Angel was great and Buffy was the greatest, but now that I am in the middle of re-watching the old episodes online, I gotta agree with Weclock, neither one is any great shakes. Angel has aged slightly better as a show, but both are simply boring teen angst-fests. Now if you want to talk about a real show from Whedon, let's talk Firefly...
BTW - Its interesting how all these newbies failed to see the subtle profundity of Weclock's post and instead of reading it, they dismiss it as simple trolling. There is nothing simple about Wec's trolling and it would be wise to realize that now before he gets out his gas mask.
If we want to talk about profundity, Buffy is one of the most profound series to have aired. Watch a random episode like Earshot or Out of Mind Out of Sight and that is profound. Take each episode at face value and you might be "meh". If you have any appreciation of classic literature, folk tales and the human condition, you might think different.
@ drmlessgames: Great argument. You've convinced me.
What shows do you think the Josh Wheaton influence has rubbed off on?
Edit: Saying 24 was influenced by Whedon is one of the most hilarious things I've ever read. 24 was great for 3 seasons but then ran itself into the ground with poor writing, plot and character. But even I wouldn't argue 24 was great because it was influenced by Buffy in its first 3 seasons.
