retro_gamer: They messed up a bit, but man, for the first time I see a free commercial game on ORIGIN that isn't a US only PROMO. And I like it. ^^
avatar
Phaidox: Good point. The thought that immediately crossed my mind was "I hope that's not yet another US-only deal". Well... thank you, EA.

On a somewhat related note, now is the perfect opportunity for GOG to release Battlefield's "unofficial, spiritual" predecessor: Codename Eagle. Such an underappreciated gem.
And it should be given for free too, of course :D

Elenarie: Look ma', a company is bad because it offers one of their products for free.

Now I really wish that EA never considers GOG as a platform for this game, if people like you want the game here.
What? Why?

KhalidYousif: What? Why?
Because

A: Origin is not the great and terrible bogeyman everyone says it is and is an adequet client.

B: THEY ARE SELLING IT FOR FREE!
QUESTION:

How many bytes does this game have to download?
avatar
morciu: |: I don't want widescreen, all I want is a nice 1154x864 like I do with all my games. I have one of those big heavy old 17" monitors

IronStar: If you look better, you will see that there is way yo set custom resolution also described there.
Battlefield 1942 does not have native widescreen support. To use custom resolutions, navigate to Battlefield 1942\Mods\bf1942\Settings\Profiles\Custom and open the file Video.con in Wordpad. The following line is the one we are interested in:
game.setGameDisplayMode 1440 900 32 60
The first number is the width and the second is the height. Change these values to the resolution you want. In this example, the game would run at a resolution of 1440x900.

I did not know you can install mods on Origin?

It's changing config file, I think it should be possible.
64 players on Wake Island was the pinnacle of team based online multiplayer. IMO this has still yet to be topped.

Battlefield 3 has Wake Island if you did not know :)
I'm beyond happy about this after losing the discs a while back. Does anyone know how MUCH of Battlefield 1942 is free though? Just the base game, or does it come with its myriad of expansions, as well?

I would say that the BF3 version is more a tribute. The two versions play completely different (ie no functional aircraft carrier or submarine, etc.)

Downloading the game right now, mabye I can finally understand why people say Battlefield now is too much like Call of Duty and 1942 to 2142 were the true Battlefields.

I set up a new profile (in the new profile's settings, of course), and tried entering 1920x1080 and it's not working for me. :/
