So what's the third movie?
The only ones I have are Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick (which has two versions of the same movie and the animated stuff (IIRC) been a while since I popped it in the ol' PS3.

I stumbled upon "The cold hour" (often called The dark hour) some time ago, didn't know anything about it.
Especially the ending made me wonder, in a positive way.

OT:
Dark City, Pitch Black, Equilibrium, Solaris (the US version), Gattaca, Screamers, Starship Troopers, etc were all excellent Sci-fi rmovies who exactly delivered what i needed

Wow. I fell asleep during Solaris (the US version). I've only seen bits and pieces of the Russian version, but it didn't look much better to me.

Speaking of unheard of movies, anyone remember the original Time Machine movie that was made in 60's(or 70's not sure which decade...)? That was the proper rendition of the classic novel.

Danny Boyle's "Sunshine" a truly awsome film, I saw it at the cinema and felt truly humble staring at the sun... despite some other plot elements being a little on the shaky side, I loved it.
Does Videodrome count? always freaks me out when I see it.
Tron is also a good one for me.
City of Men I found to be quite poor, only because I read the book only a few days before I saw the film and there was so much lost potential it was staggering. Clive Owen was very good though.
oh and just to inject a little controversy (perhaps), my most overrated choice would have to be 2001. I found it thoroughly disappointing.

I'd quite like to know what you think is the third movie. Is it the 2.1MB flash animation, or the 35 minute animated short? I don't really think either qualifies for the description "movie".

Some of my favorites like Flash Gordon, the Alien trilogy, and Forbidden Planet have already been mentioned.
A few i love that haven't are the first two Robocop movies, and the first Terminator movie.
My all time favorite sci-fi movie (at least for the time being) Is Avalon. Its a Polish/Japanese made movie that is directed by the same guy who directed Ghost in the Shell.

When you said Avalon, I immediately thought of Mysts Of Avalon, it's a fantasy film.. and not one that I'm fond of, at all. Obviously, you were talking about a different film.

Keep it up gang, my Netflix queue was a little sparse before this thread started, now I have 30+ films on it.

Brazil is brilliant. Gattaka and Stalker (Tarkovky's Stalker) are very good. 12 Monkeys is... interesting. Ghost in the Shell is good too, but it's not a movie. That's as much I would recommend from the movies above that I've seen, and I watched around 90% of them.
Okay, here is a moderately interesting one that wasn't named yet: Silent Running. There are some silly parts, but at least there is some idea behind the action. The movie takes place on bunch of space stations that are meant to preserve the last surviving forests of Earth. I especially like the scene in the mess hall. It's difficult not to draw the parallels with some people in modern consumerist societies, who simply don't really care about anything.

I remember an old sci-fi/horror film called The Thing. I remember this one scene where this guy's head was chopped off and then the head grew some weird legs and started walking around.....

There is a video game based on that movie that's supposed to be pretty good from what i hear.
