anjohl: Also, I think Borderlands does Halo better than Halo does.

StingingVelvet: Completely different games, bro.
Are they? Probably not as much as you think.

One is story-focused, one has no story at all.
One is about tactical enemies, the other enemies with no tactics at all.
One is about loot and leveling, the other has neither of these mechanics.

Yeah, they're fucking identical. What an idiot I am.

GaminggUy45: im not saying its bad i just haven't got around to playing it is all with work and everything
Trust me, I know how that is, and I'm not questioning your judgement or anything, just stating it's tragic... in an existential sense or something...

Mechanics: More different than similar
Reasons for Playing the Game: Different

Going with SV on this one.

As for Reach, it was fun, but Halo 4 is better, as I would hope an evolution would be.

Further evidence: I liked Halo a lot, I cannot stand Borderlands.

How are they similar?
Halo has a story? Anyway, you guys won't get it, but 9/10 Borderlands was at one time a Halo game. Adding looting and taking out the MX armor doesn't change the fact that the games are mechanically identical.

Borderlands has aim down Iron Sights on all their guns, Halo does not.

I ask again, how are they similar?
Spartan Ops Episode 3 is out today, may I just say that mission 4 is glorious! Make sure to play it in co-op!

They aren't, anjohl must subscribe to the mistaken, and largely disprovable, belief that mechanics define both genre and similarity between games. By his estimation Mass Effect is also the same game as Halo.

One should not mistake mechanics as anything but what they are, a tool to express something, just as the paint is not the painting, the mechanics are not the game.

Of course. I'm just curious to hear what he has to say on the matter.

Still waiting for a response by the way, anjohl.

Don't put words in my mouth. I have my reasons for believing that what eventually became Borderlands was once a Halo game, and the remnants are definitely still there, very predominantly displayed, for anyone that's not branded beyond recognition.

Honestly, if you don't feel like you are playing a Halo game when you are playing Borderlands, I feel bad for this generation of gamers.

Then share your reasons with the rest of us.

I already did. It's largely something you "feel". But anyway, no offense, but I hardly have any interest in arguing *anything* with Halo fans.

Play on.

I put absolutely no words in your mouth, you stated: "Adding looting and taking out the MX armor doesn't change the fact that the games are mechanically identical."

Notice the argument that argues that the mechanics are the same? That's not me putting words in your mouth, that's me responding to your words and telling you why they're a poor argument.
