amok: It is because it is not Valve who place the screenshots and videos on Steams store page, but the publishers. So in this case it is Square Enix making use of the same promotional material as they use for GoG. GOG may have made these materials, but they belong to Square Enix.
Thanks for the clarification. Publisher are known to be lazy in my experience. This explains that.

Nirth: Gorky 17 and Septerra Core is up on Steam now and apparently at 50% off. They also added KnightShift, an old game from 2003 that GOG doesn't even have. Oh noes. :p
Gorky 17 has all the languages on steam, but on GOG it's English only..

Wow, Gorky 17, lol. Even the GOG version of that game is messed up isn't it?

Even worse. Steam will likely never give up CEG except for certain indies but all it has to do now is try to combat region restrictions and there will be very few reasons to choose GOG over Steam. I wonder if their versions of Gorky 17 or Septerra Core is as "fixed" for modern systems as here on GOG as I always thought that was a nice touch by GOG to certify that.

Speakings of which, has anyone played KnightShift and can recommend it? I do not know much about this game, outside some very mediocre reviews

I don't but it looks interesting, I'm a sucker for RPG / RTS hybrids if they're done right. It's on sale already and I'm on the verge of impulse purchase it but my backlog keeps screaming I have too many untested games already.

I finally found a working link for the English demo (there's also a German version available):

After trying the demo of KnightShift this was a surprise. It's not the best, it has its short comings as a strategy game but there are certain RPG elements I like, the soundtrack is decent and the game opens up the more you play. It is similar to SpellForce in that you will control a Hero and you're supposed to accomplish quests and sometimes gain an army at your disposable. I'll likely wait and see if this is released here as the game would fit this site.
You know it's kind of interesting - today or yesterday Gorky 17 was released on Steam, and under the system requirements it mentions 7 and 8 compatibility. The forums, however, are suggesting that this version is no different than GOG's, and GOG only goes up to Vista (as for what they're willing to support).

I have to give props to GOG for not misleading people.
Considering how many people have been bitching whenever GOG releases a game that has already been available elsewhere (e.g. Steam), I wonder how these same people are now not complaining the same about Steam releasing games that have been in GOG for ages? :)

Anyways, just goes to show that it wouldn't have made much sense for GOG to stay only at old titles, but they made a good decision expanding elsewhere too.
I was just about to start a thread bitching about seeing Gorky17 on Steam and something else that I can't quite remember atm. So it must not have been that important.
Well I have already bought it here, so I can safly say that GOG did a good job of getting this game. I also agree that GOG should branch out into getting some of the newer titles, and Indie games too.
What's interesting to me is that the GOG versions of Fallout and Fallout 2 run on both Mac and Windows. The Steam versions are Windows only.
Does anyone know what "3rd-party DRM: Reality Pump" (from KnightShift's page) is?

Pheace: This is why GOG has been expanding it's market.
Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if this was GOG's plan all along. I think they had always wanted to release modern games as well, but started with classics because:

1. It was a niche that nobody else was filling, not even Steam (for the most part).
2. They were already used to selling older titles from their experience as a distributor in Poland.
3. It was much easier to convince publishers to release their older games DRM-free. That way, they could gradually get them used to the idea of releasing games without DRM and make it easier to convince them to release newer games in that fashion as well.

I guess you could say that GOG used classic games as a way to establish the audience and publisher/developer connections necessary in order to start selling DRM-free modern games in the first place.
