Talk about ruining the fear of not knowing what the monsters are like. Half the fear I find is not knowing just what it is that is after you, so that your imagination fills in the blanks. I played through most of the game not knowing what the creatures looked like because I was always facing the other way running screaming or cowering in a corner whimpering...
How can it be so bad? Have developers commented on it?

I don't know anything about that one. I was referring to Amnesia: the Dark Descent, which came out last year.

Penumbra: Requiem was released in 2008. But really, there was never an abundance of truly scary games.
F.E.A.R. scared the shite out of me. I hate little girls.
