I remember one such site (I think it was Ami Sector One) posted the permissions online. Most of the time they were very short and general. They didn't get permission for individual games, the publishers would just give them blanket permission to put their old Amiga games online. But at the same time, it seemed quite legit. As far as I remember they got in touch with people who actually had the power to grant them these permissions, not just random people.

I doubt very much the same model would work today, but this was around the turn of the century. Things were different then.

It's just that data files of EGA games can be extracted and ScummVM-ed. And Infocom stuff can be Frotz-ed.

Yeah, though most likely the ones who gave permission were not aware of that. Besides, I don't think ScummVM was around back then.

How so? Did you ask them "Hey, I'd like a list of all the games which come with Amiga Forever", and instead of a straight answer or list, they told you "Amiga Forever is a great way to emulate classic Amiga games...[blah, blah, blah]...you'll be able to play 250 of the best Amiga games out there...[etc]"?

Amiga Forever FAQs in the support section list the 40 games that come with the basic edition.

Checked the site out - doesn't seem impressive to me. I don't see why I should pay 30$ for a free Amiga emulator that I already have. I also don't see why I should pay for cracked rom images when I have legal floppy images at home.

I shouldn't have to ask them. That's the point. If you're selling something then it's a good idea to really, you know, sell it.

You don't pay for an emulator, nor for the games. Hell, you can find more cracked ROMs than you'll ever have time to go over. But what you are paying for is the only LEGAL distribution of the Kickstarter and Workbench ROMs. Without those, your WinUAE is quite worthless. Plus, they do offer additional software (Amiga Explorer for example) and have an excellent customer service from my experience.

In the end it's up to you. Frankly, I'd rather have an original Amiga at home, but unfortunately, I have to stick with the virtual. And when it comes to that, no-one does it better than Cloanto (perhaps it's also because they're the only ones, but I wouldn't wish to get into that discussion).

Also, I have to agree with Navagon - if a major selling point of Amiga Forever is the games the paid versions come with, why isn't Cloantro being upfront with what these games are instead of hiding this information away - or not even willing to talk about it?

Ah, I see. And yes ... while I do own an Amiga with Kickstarter roms, those are far away, and I downloaded the ones which I use with the emulator from the net. So I see your point. However, I still don't feel that the price tag is justified.

Nope, the major selling point is that it's the only way to get Amiga Kickstart (i.e. system) ROMs for legit emulation. Everything else is just padding. Value version gets you the early Amiga support, Plus adds later models with advanced 256 color graphics.
The included games are... well.. just some games. No one cares, since AF site links you to places with 3000+ floppy images. :)

Most times, when I check up on games I fondly remember from the Amiga I'm surprised that there was also a DOS version that alright too, even Zool was on DOS!
