I didn't buy Diablo 3, even if I wanted. That answers the question.

What's funny (read sad) is that they released the console version with a fully working single player that does not require internet connection. Grade A "F YOU" to PC players...
I'm ok with that. On MMOs. Real MMOs; not those actually a single player game but with mmo-like features tacked on for the sake of DRM crap. Otherwise:

Roxolani: What do you think about "Always-on DRM"?
avatar
agogfan: It's Always-off my PC.
Totally that :)
Always on = 100% no buy

Chances are I'll even avoid other games by the same publisher without that type of DRM, because fuck you!

Roxolani: Some games use this type of DRM (for example, Diablo III). What do you think about "Always-on DRM"?
almost the ultimate sign of distrust towards the user when used on single-player games & I don't support those that do this or act in a way that promotes such measures

Novotnus: For me it equals never-buy-under-any-circumstances :)
Exactly. I agree with you. +
Always on DRM = "Thank you for your money, but we don't trust you."

I'm not sure if he signed the Declaration of Independence or this thread, but he did sign my beer. Thanks, Sam!

Tarnicus: ... Steam can now be left in offline mode indefinitely. Previously account credentials in offline were "lost" quite regularly. It seemed to happen every 2 weeks for me, whilst other users reported periods of anywhere from 7-30 days. ...
Yes, the offline mode has become better although I would like to observe it a bit longer before I believe it. I still wonder what happens when the client updates though. Also some features of the games depend on being online and connected to Steam and ultimately when you want to re-install you'll need to be online. Steam is something in between one-time activation and always-on.

I don't want to judge it, but it seems to be the much more accepted form of DRM by the customers and therefore every publisher should copy the DRM scheme of Steam. Don't understand why Diablo III wants this bad publicity. Maybe they think that their game is so great, it will be bought with any kind of DRM.

I should add that I haven't tested the extent of offline myself yet since reading about it being "fixed". When I get a crappy desktop(for occasional web-browsing, writing and low-end games) set up I'll see if it will last indefinitely. That computer won't be hooked up to the internet much as I'll be using a usb wireless adapter which won't be plugging in often.

It should be illegal, as should all DRM.

TDP: Any account-based DRM = must be destroyed
Preferably with fire.

OT: I avoid Always-On DRM like the Plague.
