stonebro: (...) and very much don't like the PSN, which is inferior to XBLA in every conceivable way.

Except for being free to use?
Well, I shouldn't speak - I don't use either.
I'm with xa_chan on this; I have too many unplayed games already. I might try Alan Wake if it comes out on the PC... but if it doesn't, that's just one more game that won't be added to my backlog.
There already is a thread about this:

Personally I still don't see a point in buying a 360. If I ever buy a console this generation (and low frame-rate and lack of customisation may still prevent me from doing this) it will be a PS3. The amount of interesting XBox exclusives just increased from debatable 2 to 3.
Anyone else find it ironic that Remedy in Max Payne 1 in one cut-scene accused MS of being a monopolist? ;)

CaptainGyro: I will never understand why the dreamcast is considered by many to be the best console of all time.
Ps2 all the way for me just from ps2 titles alone it's not even close. Then when you throw in the backward compatibilty it's total obliteration.
avatar
stonebro: PS2 is compatible with PS1?
NICE. I never knew, actually.

yup the one downside is you have to find a ps1 memory card to save your games

stonebro: I'm considering buying a 360.

Go see doctor and/or psychiatrist right now! You may still be saved!

Don't forget the ridiculous amount of money you have to pay for the Xbox Live account and the very high chance to loose the money.
A friend of mine (her) had just lost 60 bucks for a ridiculous gold account and it lapsed. It just lapsed.
I planned to get a Xbox360 console, but seeing this stopped me and made me wiser.

Very sad, this. I do own a 360 (and a PS3 & Wii), but I wanted to play this on the PC. I have my consoles in the living room, which I have to share with the family. This means it's far from the perfect environment for a game like this. I find it's much easier to immerse myself in my games when I play on the PC.
So... I'll have to buy it for the 360, I guess. But I really wish I didn't have to, and I'm pissed at Microsoft, who really should be spearheading PC gaming, for forcing me to play it on the second best format.
At least it's gone from a safe pre-order to a wait-and-see type purchase for me.
I want a 360 to a certain extent, but one will never trick me into buying a PS3.
The consoles still fail when it comes to strategy games and WRPGs, and to a lesser extent FPSs. Until I can sit down and play those games with as much ease as I play them on the PC, they'll never completely dominate.
That being said, woe is the one who plays a sensitive platformer ported to the PC :/

Third.
IM quite satisfied with my PS3 and my PC... but even the blessed PS# is going to charge for online multiplayer now.. used to be free but there changing there model after seeing the revenue of the xbox....
personally the only reason i bought a ps3 was for free online, once they charge i'll sell it all and buy a 360... if i have to pay i'll pay for the superior service, even if the games look shittier and load times are so long i can eat lunch between levels.
Bottom line, as someone said earlier there are plenty of other great games coming.. Alan Wake wont live up to the hype anyways, they hardly do... at least i have my Bioshock2 mass Effect 2 and 3, and Heavy Rain to keep me happy...
I am sorry, but when you look at the price gouging on the consoles ALONE, how could you support them?
I mean, with the wealth of GOG's for $6, and great $2 and $5 dollar deals on Steam, who cares?
I would buy a console as well, if it had the same depth of available single player games, and similar pricing.
Fucking South Park on 360 downloaded via their online store is like $15. I expect a 4-5 pack of games for $15, but a shitty watered down tower defense mess.

I'd maybe buy a 360, if the damn thing didn't have RROD galore and didn't have a massive failure rate.

Apparently the newest models greatly alleviate the problem. Haven't heard any RROD stories about them yet...
I still wouldnt buy one just because they screwed people for so long, knowing they could've prevented it. God they are such whores...and people are such idiots.

I don't care about Alan Wake, survival horror type stuff is not my thing, but WOW is that the lamest excuse ever for not supporting the PC. Makes me angry even though I don't care about the game.

I buy used game console games for really cheap , and sometimes selling them again gets me a profit. And the gog games are not a perfect substitiute for current console games
