Canada is 'Murica's hat.

Usually I'm paying a decent ammout for PWYW bundles. Otherwise I would feel like exploiting the system and especially those who offer it.

This time, for the first time ever, I gave only $1, because I already own many of the games and have no real interest in the remaining ones. Still I can't help to feel uncomfortable with it. Not buying it at all would have felt like a missed opportunity and paying more than necessary would have been a waste of money. It's a dilemma.

Sorry, that was a poor attempt at humor ;) Though I do agree with your original point.

Tallima: I'm a bit anxious to play the first Bioware game (the mech one). It may suck, but it'll be like reading a video game history book.
Frankly, I think the soundtrack is the best part of that game. I really like it, reminds me mostly of the music in the Aliens (movie). Too bad GOG didn't offer a separate soundtrack in the extras, I am unsure if the music files are available somewhere in the game installation separately, or if they are part of the CD image (in the original retail game, the music tracks are normal audio CD tracks IIRC).

But I don't quite share the hate some others are expressing to the gameplay either. Sure it is no Mechwarrior, but for its age, I feel it is still a decent mission based 3D "mech" shooter game.

Note though, if you start feeling your laser guns don't hit enemies well but just seem to go through your enemies, your "machine" (DOSBox) is running too fast. So try slowing it down a bit with Ctrl-F11, until it starts feeling the enemies start taking damage from lasers again.

(Just played the game a bit yesterday, completed a few missions in the "insane" difficulty level. I've played the game through once a a long time ago.)

ashout: shattered steal remains a peice of crap, and i say that for one reason: your lasers take to long to recharge. I fought one bad guy, missed him 90% of the time, and then by the time i found another bad guy my lasers had recharged to a whopping 10 percent.
Two things:

- Your DOSbox is running too fast, hence your lasers don't necessarily hit as they should. Ctrl-F11 during gameplay to slow DOSBox down, or edit the conf file.

- You can make your lasers charge faster by putting more power to your weapons (from mech speed and/or shield regeneration). Use those Ins/Del/Home/End/PgUp/PgDn keys to control them. If there is a big firefight incoming, lots of red dots in the radar, I usually put mech speed to minimum, and channel all available power to both energy weapons and the shield.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the shattered steel hints, i'll try them out one day if i have a spare minute for an old game.

my next question is, isn't baldurs gate interplay? why isn't it in the deal?

All the D&D games are Atari now.

SS subforum also suggests replacing whatever DOSBox the game comes with (0.73?) with 0.74.
What happens exactly when you gift this promo ? Can you use this to keep one game and redistribute the rest separately, with individual codes, or is it just one pack, adding to your accound all the games you don't already own, as soon as you type some unique code ?

No, not really. If you don't own a game in the bundle, it becomes yours. Then, you get a single code for all the games you already did own. So if you owned 3/8 games, then you get 5 games and a single code for the other 3.

Basically, whoever opens the gift, whether it's you or someone else... that person is forced to take every game that they don't have.

If there's any remaining (because they're already owned) then the code can be given to someone else, who again, will be forced to take every remaining game that they don't have.

and so on.

Ok, that was a bit what I feared. Thanks.
i went ahead and got the big deal, all 32 for 30 odd some bucks.

couldn't help it, those games looked good and for that price, its hard to resist.

I notice the average keeps going up, as opposed to the last time they did a deal like this, the divinity one, where the average kept going down. that means more people are getting the top teir stuff then before.

In the last deal, the average went down because it had been shot so high in the first hours of the deal that down was the only direction left to go. ;)

ashout: those 8 games are well worth the investment. except for shattered steel, that game is like pulling teeth.
I loved Shattered Steel. Hasn't played it for ages, but it was a game I enjoyed a lot. It was Bioware's first game, and it made me buy Baldur's Gate (which I couldn't really get into).

That was many years ago, though, and it's possible that I won't like it much these days. Haven't tried to replay it.
Herve Caen:
(in stereotypical French accent) "If we don't get some money by next week, we won't have enough money to make payroll and we'll have to file for bankruptcy!"

Desk Secretary:
"Why don't we run a sale for our IP's on GOG.com? I hear Larian Studios did well from that new "Pay What You Want" thing."

Herve:
"Brilliant! This will be my next step in reviving Black Isle Studio and making Interplay the powerhouse of games once again!" (twirls Mustache comically)

*Secretary sighs loudly*

so is interplay dead, or are they still kicking? becuase i went to their website, and lo and behold, they havn't made any games since fallout brother of steel for the xbox!

except this one game, that came out in 2010.

but still, between 2000 and now there are hardly any games to interplays credit!
