CarrionCrow: Well, one and a half down so far. Finished Torchlight 2, hadn't finished the first before that, found that I could have made a more compelling story with finger puppets. Point, click, loot, lather, rinse, repeat, yay winner game over. Roughly halfway through Puzzle Quest 2, which also has no story, unless me resisting the urge to beat my head against the desk counts as one.
Are you talking about the first Torchlight game or the second one?
The first one was pretty basic, but it had a compelling point to it that served it's purpose of rationalizing the setting and gameplay. not quite as lore rich as Diablo was, but it served the same purpose and the first game was built from scratch in something like a single year.
TL2 was supposed to be a step up, they even hired a full time writer to do the story ... then in the middle of it the scrapped it and gutted the story he had written in order to make it less like Diablo 2 and more like some kind of isometric fantasy Borderlands clone.
I loved TL1, but I just couldn't get into TL2 the same way as it just wasn't the same; it is on my 4iF list too.
