CarrionCrow: Honesty moment, folks - I just ate, but the concept of a steak-and-ale pie sounds frigging awesome. It could consist of some psychotic recipe where "steak" is actually shorthand for "fermented rat colon", but the title of the dish itself is fantastic.

IAmSinistar: We have a British pie shop in my neighborhood (The Proper Pie Company, actually run by Kiwis I suspect). They have only the edible parts of British cuisine on offer, including sausage rolls, potato pasties, chicken kumara pastries, and to-die-for steak-and-mushroom pies. The desserts are top-notch as well, and they do mad business. I was there a couple Sundays ago right after they opened, and the line already ran the length of the shop and back. :)

Not sure if their steak-and-mushroom is a bona fide steak-and-ale, as they are cagey about the secret ingredients, but it tastes as fine as one.
As great as all that sounds, it's for the best that they're in your neck of the woods. No one wants their business closing to be caused by construction crews needing to cut down walls in order to extricate a gluttonous quasi-mountain from their establishment.
This is my local brewery (there are others, but not as good) and a pint of Gem with a decent steak and ale pie is like being kicked in the tonsils by an angel. Utter, complete and total heaven.

Or even a chunk of Stilton!

donsanderson: Nexus back up as an expected day 3 repeat. Can't outguess this sale at all.
Right. It's as wily and unpredictable as an 85 year old with two artificial hips. The only chance of serious variation is if the elderly person suddenly takes a header, just to keep you on your toes.

I can see how that conversation might go down. Just walk up to the angel and say, "So, how does the almighty feel about their servants becoming obscenely involved with ravenous foot fetishists?"
And when she kicks you in the throat, you can just smile and think to yourself, "You played right into my hands...."

Crap. Think I got BDSM and foot fetishism mixed up, and all for the sake of a bad joke. Darn you, sleep deprivation!

We've got a number of good indigenous breweries in my city, and a pint of Hardywood Singel would be lovely with some Proper Pie takeaway. If that's even an approximation of British heaven, I know which afterlife queue I'm getting in. :)

Don't worry, foot fetishism works fine ;-)

As close as I can get tonight is chicken nuggets and Diet Pepsi, it'll do just fine.
Shit.

Read that first as "food fetishism". Which is hella fine with me, boyo. :D

I might not post much on these forums ( a bit of a loner), but i have to say i love the conversation around these parts. Always colorful. :)
It's all madness at this point....a hallucinogenic mindscape of angels with rage in their eyes, succulent meat pies and vicious beatings, a land where the same techno remix of Tetris plays endlessly and a giant clock in the sky drips blood as it ticks backwards, mocking all who gaze upon it with the illusion of a zero that will never come....

Try saying that after twenty pints...

Hell, I couldn't say it now over the hysterical laughter.

Stilton: Are any of these Myst games worth going for, and if so, which is the best?
Just my two cents: While they are all great, I really enjoy the original Myst the best. Currently, the RealMyst: Masterpiece Edition is on Flash Sale and that might be the ticket you want. I have been unable to pull the trigger on it as I already own RealMyst standard and Myst: Masterpiece Edition. Essentially, RM:ME is both of those two titles combined. It takes the free roam 3D world of the RealMyst remake and ups the resolution and textures while, simultaneously, having a "Classic Mode" which is the original point-n-click 2D version.

With the current site-wide sales, you could buy RM and M:ME separately for the same price that RM:ME is going for in the Flash Sale, or simply just buy one or the other to save $3. While I do love the "traditional" visuals of the original Myst, being able to explore the same world in 3D and with full movement is very cool.

I know, ultimately, this creates more of a conundrum than it solves, but I thought I would share my thoughts as I've been mulling over buying this game for the umpteenth time. :P
