OneFiercePuppy: Both XCOM and XCOM2 have base assaults and defenses. Not sure who said otherwise.
Well, the vanilla XCOM did not have any and the one added by Enemy Within was only scripted one as part of story, right?
But yeah, othewise you are right.
The game pleasantly surprised me at how much mods are available right now (the timed missions is a nice challenge, but timer after concealment has got to be the must-have mod, because why would aliens rig their stuff when they're not aware of humans sneaking by?) and how crushing and unforgiving it is. The game's setting is also both enthralling and a bit hopeless, and I was looking for a game that gave me that feeling that I'm doubting the sufficiency of my efforts and not just wrecking me at random.

What I'm not pleasantly surprised at is how poor the performance is. The same rig that runs the original game at high settings with constant 60 fps and minimum lag gives me constant 20 fps with mid-low textures in the sequel, which is kinda disappointing to see that from a core PC title. Here's a video about that.

..and now it becomes obvious why it didn't show up on consoles.

I've heard rumors that XCOM 2 will be sold by GOG in the future.

Is there any word on when that will be?

Where did you hear that? We barely got XCOM a few months ago.

I think mid 2008 has already been a bit longer than what could be called 'a few months' :-)

Someone found a XCOM 2 trailer on GOG's youtube account around last Christmas. This pretty much proves they are working on getting it here. When the video was found (it went unnoticed for several months) and GOG got swamped with questions they quickly made the video private which I guess it should have been from the start.

There was never an official announcment nor planned release date given by GOG. So it could appear at any time or if we are unlucky never.

I recommend the following thread for such speculations:

The post referencing that trailer can be found here: www.gog.com/forum/general/games_that_are_unofficially_confirmed_for_release_in_the_future_part_2/post10492

It was the rumors about the trailer Geralt_of_Rivia mentioned, I had no additional information.
