Okay guys I need your help! I bought Witcher 2 for my pc on GOG almost 5 months ago, and I still haven't been able to play it. Well, let me rephrase that--I HAVE been able to play it, but it lags REALLY bad. Everything is so slow I can barely play it.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix that and make it a normal play through? Is this because my graphics card isn't an Nvidia GF 8800 512 VR or ATI Radeon HD 3850 512 MB? That's the only thing I'm missing for requirements.

There's gutta be someone out there who knows what to do and how to run the game like it's supposed to

Thank you for your help guys I appreciate it. **NOTE--I do have W10 so I'm not too sure if that could be a reason**

Well, you should give a few infos about your system. And yes, Win 10 could be a reason!
System specs would help... but I'd wager GPU isn't up to snuff
Well... Unfortunately, if you don't have the minimum spec'd graphics card for requirements, you're lucky the game is loading at all. Witcher 2 is heavy on the graphics, and if you have less than an 8800 or 3850, you're going to always suffer horrible graphics lag. Win 10 has nothing to do with it, though it certainly isn't helping if your graphics card is that old.

You might want to pinch a few pennies and get a new graphics card soon. Also make sure "Ubersampling" is turned off. It makes my system fluctuate between 5-35 fps and I have an AMD R9 280 with 3gb of Video RAM.

OP didn't even mention what's their graphics card. They just said it's not one of the two mentioned in the system requirements. It could be an even better GPU for all we know.

It's just impossible to figure out the problem if they don't post the full specs.

Anyway it does sound like a weak GPU could be OP's problem.

Oh, that GPU is god awful, sorry. I had a 5870 back when that game released and it was 'alright'. Start with the GPU.
Never mind. I misread.

1. Meet the game's hardware requirements. Are you really saying you have a graphics card with less than 512MB of RAM?

2. Fiddle with the graphics options of the game, like lowering the resolution (have you tried e.g. 1280x720?), switching down or off some graphics settings (especially ubersampling, as it makes even high-end PCs cry) etc.?

Can you give examples of other PC games which run fine on your system, and at which settings (resolution etc.)?

If other 3D games work fine on your system, probably not. If other relatively new AAA games have similar problems, then either your GPU or rest of the system is too weak, or you have some driver problem, like no proper graphics driver installed.

Wow my bad, your right specs would help. Here they are:

TOSHIBA Satellite C55t-A
Intel (R) Celeron(R) CPU N2820 @ 2.13GHz
4.00 GB
64-bit OS, x64-based processor

I'm thinking its the N2820 @ 2.13Ghz that's the problem. Ive lowered the resolution which does next to nothing.

I know my computer isn't a gaming computer by any means, I just didn't know If there was something I could do to get it out of that lag period...

Shame I can't get into it....they should make the whole series for PS4:-) Anyways thanks for your reply I appreciate it

I think this cpu slightly weaker than what they mention it in the minimum requirements, but the real problem is the integrated gpu what is a very weak gpu.
So I'm thinking the game is just not going to be enjoyable to play unless I invest in a graphics card or whatnot. I have a 32 inch monitor and I plan on making it a desktop...I'll just have to wait till then. Plus I'm sure it'll be that much better anyways.

If anyone has any ideas, let me know! I'm always willing to try different things.

As the other folks said, you can't do anything else than lowering every possible option in the graphics menu. Laptops usually struggle with GPU intensive games and W2 is definitely one of them. Your best choice would be to wait until you can afford a new (or even used) desktop with some good CPU & GPU combination. While waiting you can play the excellent Witcher 1, in case you haven't played it yet.

Also, take a look in the guide below; it can help you achieve the best performance with what you have right now.

ria050186:
Since that Satellite code gives multiple results, is this your laptop?

If yes, the GPU is an Intel one, so the graphics performance is really poor. Unfortunately you cannot do much, given that it's a laptop.

As for the CPU, I played the game on my old desktop with an Athlon X2 4200+ running Windows XP, which has about the same performance with your CPU.

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Celeron-N2820-vs-AMD-Athlon-X2-4200

So, the CPU is in the low limits, but enough.

I used a Geforce GT 650 1 GB, so I had good enough graphics even on that old system.

The game is just badly optimized in my opinion. I tried it once, but decided to quit after quite a few hours playing the game. I had to go back and forth trying to find the right tweaks for the game until I finally reached to that point where I could no longer take it. If I'm not mistaken, the first boss had a very huge impact on my laptop's performance. The octopus one.

You didn't mention the GPU (graphics processing unit), but if your specs are like this:

http://www.pcworld.com/product/1407408/toshiba-satellite-c55t-a5247-notebook.html

then the Intel HD 3000 just won't cut it for the game. The only things you can try is to lower the resolution and switch graphics options to low. If you are not happy how the game runs and looks then, not much else to do.

Make no mistake, The Witcher 2 was quite a resource hog when it came out, but it is still scales pretty well for different machine specs.

Laptop specs < Desktop specs.

Laptops generally have 2x weaker specs than mid spec Desktop PC. Using laptop as a gaming device is just a waste of money.
