JakobFel: It's funny because to me, Oblivion was the pinnacle of the series due to its blend of old school and new school (for the time) gameplay. The dungeons in Skyrim are way better and the combat is way better, but Oblivion just checked a lot more of the boxes for me than any of the rest of the series.

Chasmancer: Oblivion by no means' a bad game. Just didn't click with me as well as the others, I felt like it tried to do everything and the end result turned out to be bland-ish all over, more so that many of its new features didn't measure up to extant Morrowind mods.
Might be a grognard in me, but then, I also felt that Skyrim did right what Oblivion didn't quite got.
Still, if you wanted everything and the kitchen sink, I guess I could see why it would be your favourite.

JakobFel: Even so, I think all of them are fantastic, even the spinoff titles and yes, even ESO.

Chasmancer: Never met anyone before who'd say Travels were fantastic, or even good, and I've heard that about mobile Prince of Persia (from a die-hard fan of original platformers).
That's completely and totally fair. There's no denying that Skyrim did some stuff better and Daggerfall/Morrowind are way more in-depth with the RPG mechanics (too much so, IMO, but I still love them). And yeah, I just meant the ones that are on PC, I've never played the Travels games lol
This is a game that's so well made that even the uninteractive opening sequence can fall off the rails and prevent the game from actually starting.

By that merit alone, I would be of the opinion that given they've never fixed that in the decade that it's been around, to say that drinking Todd Howard's Kool-Aide isn't a smart idea, nor is Skyrim even in the top 10 of RPGs.
I can recognize the strong points of the game but every time I try and get into it, it just feels too slow to me. It feels like it takes for ever to go anywhere or do anything.
Hello, welcome to the forums and sorry for the bizarre behavior of some people to just downvote you as a way to show they disagree.

Skyrim is a game people definitely can have fun with, but Imo, is far from being the best rpg, or even an rpg I'd say.
Many quests lines in the game offer a good amount of adventure, exploration and action, yes, but they're just not well designed at all Imo.

The most offending problems here being:

- They do not offer meaningful choices;
- The game throws 100 quests at you at once, to make the player think that the game is big, but this is just bloated;
- Many of those quests are the same, with the objective being to go somewhere, kill some draugs, loot 10 gold from 10 random chests, kill or get what is needed, return and repeat;
- Skill system is lazy and poorly designed ("Level up! -random viking scream- Health, Stamina or Magic upgrade?")
- The dragon fights are Epic and well designed for 2011, yes, but they're repetitive and a chore after a while.
- Game and engine are full of game breaking bugs and glitches (to this day!!!) and you're required to install at least community fix mods to actually play vanilla without risks.

With mods, Skyrim can look and play beautifully.
Adding complex systems to the base game, like new combat moves, new skill and crafting systems and so on.
But the core game still there. And it is a flawed, repetitive, glorified mess - that can be fun, yes, it can - but it's far from being the best RPG.

Good RPGs for comparison:

- Dragon Age: Origin
- The Witcher (series)
- Final Fantasy (series)
- Pillars of Eternity (series)
- Divinity (series)
- Mass Effect (series)
- etc...

The best Elder Scrolls game RPG-wise is without a doubt, Morrowind.
I had fonder memories of Oblivion. Skyrim is its own kind of fun, but it was obvious they divulged time into things I didn't care for.
*searches the gog store*... WTF is a Skyrim???
Because its so freaking immersive Since i hoped that cd project finally made a proper rpg with cyberpunk(which was sadly not the case)skyrim is still my favorite rpg....baldurs gate 3 is a good candidate
low rated
Bug, glitch, crash simulator. That is what the Skyrim is in a nutshell.
