chevkoch: That's interesting to know you too liked the first one, since you played the game (which I haven't yet). And yes, Revelation I was so excited for, and very disappointed upon watching it.

almabrds: You really should - one of the best horror games.
Play SH 1, 2 ,3 friend, you won't regret!
Unfortunately the first one is not available for PC.

chevkoch: I'm just now slowly learning to be content with a film, game or book I love and stopping to always want a sequel that I'll like as much - it rarely happens that we get a similar quality experience.

almabrds: Yes, indeed.
I can't say I'm surprised the second movie sucked.
It was stupidity changing director and other things, why change something which was doing good?
Konami likes seeing SH fans with torches in hands, apparently.
With the cancellation of Silent Hills, I think it's the end of the franchise.
guys i have question - i finish SH 3 and 4 long time ago but first boss from sh 3 that black worm with big mouth i couldn't kill it without bullets. is that normal? i mean if you're stuck only with knife you're finished

I still got a PS2 lying around. Should put it to use again I figure. Back when people played the first one on release, I liked what they were talking about in terms of story and atmosphere. And of course the movie makes me naturally interested in the games as well.

Konami will surely immortalize the franchise with another Pachinko machine :/
in sh 4 quite in the beginning you meet a guy who smoke and talk hard. he sits near an orphanage i think. he die in flames he was even happy to die he says that he finally met the devil hehehe... that guy reminds me of joiee bitch :P if only joiee would die the same :'(
A combination of the three things:
1)most video games[even critically acclaimed ones]have awful writting
2)video games with actually good stories sometimes use gameplay to help tell the story which is untranslatable to cinema
3)the people writting and directing these films are usually talentless 'hired gun for work' hacks of hollywood. there's no real vision or passion behind the camera. heck sometimes you can't even expect basic comprehension of the source material from these people. Just look at Max Payne movie.

Mr.Caine has me thinking.

What games would make a good movie?

Of course a shit production can ruin a good premise and vice versa, so ultimately there is no right and wrong answer here.

most story driven games

the telltale "games" would make decent movies because they are barely interactive games as it is

I have always thought that Freespace and Homeworld would make great movies.

Let me tell you a secret. I kind of like the wing Commander movie. I don't think it's all that bad. There are much worse movies out there.

Freespace and Homeworld could be really good movies, but I doubt there is going to be funding for a movie based off games that old.
I'd like to see a movie of the Super Famicom Clock tower or the First playstation clock tower games.
There's an inbreeding effect that happens, too. A great many games are deliberately designed to evoke popular movies - e.g., look at how often games rip-off Aliens - so then you make a movie out of those games and you can't help but feel like you're watching a watered down version of something you've already seen. The Max Payne games were designed to evoke Hong Kong action movies, so why make a movie out of them? You've already seen Hard Boiled!

All I can say is that the first time I saw this, It knocked my socks off. It still does.

Nah, nothing like Star Wars. It kinda reminds me of this show, which I thought was good as well.
