timppu: The Imperialistic System is based on real-life things, that's why it makes more sense!
- An inch is the width, or was it the length, of your thumb.
- A feet is the length of your foot, unless you are an Italian man with small feet, or a Big Foot.
- A yard is the distance an average man pees standing up.
See? That's why Americans never need nor use any tape measures or anything, they just use their smelly feet to measure everything, like that NASA landing module which crashed to Mars.
Same goes for temperatures. In America they don't need to use thermometers due to the Fahrenheit scale, instead they just stick their thumb to one's ass to measure if there is any fever. That's where the term "rule of thumb" comes from.

Most science in America is done in the metric system just like any other part of the world. I have no idea why they were building that component using imperial measures.
