I found something that i really wanted to. But from finding something to utilizing something, there is some distance in-between. As is from using something and failing to using something and succeeding. Let's see this time if i can start over and not fail those tests/trials. Now i can see the larger picture, at least.

I was just playing Far Cry 3, trying to liberate an outpost by defeating the pirates living in it. I was trying to conquer the outpost undetected, as liberating 2 outposts undetected is a prerequisite for one of the stealth skills.

I was just carefully approaching the outpost, trying to spot the pirates through the telescope of my sniper rifle, advancing very slowly so as not to get spotted and I hadn't seen any pirates yet but I heard the sound of pirates shouting and dogs barking. There's aggressive wild dogs living on Far Cry 3's Rook Island that can easily kill a man. As I got closer, suddenly the screen went black to make way for a cutscene of the blue flag being raised: "Outpost liberated, undetected". The dogs had liberated the outpost for me without me even having seen any pirate!

That's interesting how things like that can happen in games.

Let me share a couple interesting things that happened in my first playthrough of Dragon Quest 5 (SFC version) many years ago.

1. In a dungeon that did not allow the wagon, I encountered some Moon Eyes (I think they're called something like lunatick in the DS version, but I don't remember exactly). One of them cast Chance (Hocus Pocus in the DS translation), and it paralyzed all battle participants. In this version, entire party paralyzed = game over. Obviously, I was not happy.

2. In the final dungeon (which does allow the wagon), I encountered a Metal King Slime. (For those unfamiliar with the series, this enemy likes to run away and has absurd defense (but only single digit HP), and is immune to nearly all spells, but if killed, yields an insane amount (over 30k) of XP.) That MKS cast Chance, and it, again, decided to paralyze all battle participants. Since I had the wagon, it was not a game over, and the characters in the wagon could finish the battle. I note that paralyze doesn't wear off (so the enemy MKS would never recover from paralysis), and that paralyzed characters still get XP from winning a battle. I think you can figure out the result and why it made me happy.

Notice how the exact same effect caused completely different results.
