Halo, the most total fun I've ever had with a game.
It depends on the time, as they progress.

Some were ASCII characters moving lower through levels. Then Wizardry games, Civilization games, Empire Earth games, then Witcher 1. Liked the first Witcher best, as the rest were somehow not the same. Total War franchise was good too, until I ignored after Steam crap.
The Bioware Neverwinter Nights.

Much love for Civilization 2.

Skyl1ne9: The Bioware Neverwinter Nights.
Same. Not so much for the official campaigns but for the engine, flexible toolset, different game modes and all the community content.

It might not be the one I found the most exciting in the moment, but the one I played for the longest time and always come back to. It never really gets old to me, and I actually made friends through its community.

If I had to put a game at the number 1 spot, it'd probably be Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

The runners-up would probably be:
Age of Empires 2 + The Conquerors
Titan Quest + Immortal Throne

Night-Blade: Sacred 2 if only it ran better on Win 10. Unfortunately, the community patch doesn't really help either.
It doesn't? I have pretty much no issues running it with the patched files. Unpatched, it's pretty much unplayable as it will crash due to a memory leak. The patched files have much more memory headroom so it only crashes quite rarely (but still happens from time to time). But it has to be noted that you have to run it in windowed mode. On Windows 10, in fullscreen, the loading times are terrible for some reason and the game really doesn't like minimzing/maximizing while in fullscreen. Don't remember the game having these issues back on Windows XP, but windowed mode solved everything and barring the occasional crash (which were happening ever since the game released), it runs perfectly fine.

I am running the PFP mod, but it uses the same fixed files as the Community Patch.

Civilisation IV. It just feels like the best in the series and the graphics are fantastic (not just for the time - they really still hold up today - detailed yet clear).

Runners up would be:

Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix 4 - still the best F1 game released, although some of the Codemasters games came close.

Star Wars: Tie Fighter - still the best Star Wars game released, edging out the KOTOR games (for the benefit of the bots necro-ing this thread in five years, this was written before the KOTOR remake came out - which I'm expecting to be terrible)

Yeah, I remember hanging out with my friends in the dorm and just messing around with all the options and mods we could find for nights on end. Great times.

Rep7icant: Although it's very difficult to choose one favorite game of all time, I pick Starcraft. Last year, I played it once again using an old XP machine and it amazed me how great the game still is. It's so much fun and exciting. It's quite addictive really, for I couldn't stop playing it until the end of Broodwar. I would replay several stages dozens of times just for the sake of trying new strategies and tactics. And I finally managed to reach the secret level, Dark Origin. Time just flies when you're engaged in such a masterpiece. SC is a true classic!
I am so happy someone mentioned SC, and especially its single-player campaign, as I felt I'd name it too as my favorite single-player game of all time (I've never played it multiplayer online, I care only for its single-player campaign).

Unfortunately, I am still obliged to name Team Fortress 2 as my most favorite game ever, considering how many hours I've wasted of my life to it, and apparently still keep wasting. The gameplay is so addictive, but I feel bad naming it as it is an online multiplayer game.

I just thought of one odd similarity between Team Fortress 2 and Starcraft, which is one of the main reasons I like both games: they offer vastly different gameplay experiences depending which class (TF2) or race (SC) you choose. They both feel like completely different games with different classes/races, and that is the thing that really amazes me in both games.

Like I keep saying, Team Fortress 2 is the best tower defense game ever (when playing the engie class), which is kind of an odd thing to say about an online shooter, but there you have it. It is so much more than mere shooting.

Starcraft feels almost like three different RTS games in one, when you play the three different races.

How do you do, timppu?

You're right about saying that SC feels like three different RTS games depending on which of the three races you choose from. I messed with its multiplayer mode, but never really got into it. The single-player campaigns were (and still are) so enthralling to me, that I never really cared about playing the game over the internet. It's very hard to choose one's favorite game of all time. However, SC always comes to my mind when I think about a fun and engaging title that defies the test of time. I must say that AoE2 is a great contender though... I never played the game you mentioned. I might check it out someday.

Take care and see you next time.

Depends how we're counting a game. I f I can say Half-Life 2 including all expansions and variations, stuff like what's in the Gold Box, then no contest. If I can't, then it'd have to just be Portal.

Ah, I see that you're a big fan of Half-Life/Portal series
We're same!
Oblivion and Dragon Age series. It's hard to choose only one:)
Questions like this are always difficult for me... if held at knifepoint, I could answer Thief Gold, but there are others that I could mention, starting with its sequel Thief II, then Deus Ex, Starcraft, NOLF, Quake, Unreal, Painkiller, Incubation, or Shogo, a game I hold dear while acknowledging its shortcomings.
Among arcades, I could say Time Pilot, but also Smash TV, Road Fighter, Exerion...

I am, too! I prefer the first game in each series to its respective sequel.
