Icewind Dale II
I've owned IWD2 since its release (2002) and started it several times but never finished it, so last year I decided to remedy that with a brand new playthrough. Got about halfway through the game, took a ~6 month break, and picked it up again a few weeks ago. I expect to finish it in the next couple of weeks. It's a decent game with some great moments, but the pacing is thrown off by the fact that there's just WAY too much combat... It's clearly a victim of its much too short development cycle but still quite enjoyable and a fitting swan song to the Infinity Engine.
Fallout 2
Fallout is a strong contender for my all time favorite RPG setting. This first became apparent after I played through Fallout: New Vegas and its DLC's last year and it instantly became one of my favorite RPG's ever, and even more so after I finished the original Fallout for the first time later last year (like IWD2, I had played it before but never finished it). I took a bit of a break from the setting after F1 but knew I'd want to play F2 and Tactics sooner or later, and last weekend felt like the right time to start F2. And it was. I love it. I'm already liking it better than F1 -- which isn't too surprising I guess, since F:NV was my "first" Fallout game and it seems more similar to F2 than F1 -- and it just keeps expanding and enriching that world in surprising and awesome ways that make it very difficult to put the game down for basic human necessities like eating and sleeping... And it's been a long time since a game had that kind of effect on me.
Broken Sword 4: The Angel of Death
This is part of what has become a solid selection of adventure games I'm playing "together" with my girlfriend (meaning we're both playing the same games, at the same time, alongside each other). It started with the first Broken Sword and we've gone through the series from there, and it's been a LOT of fun experiencing these games together this way. We both seem to prefer 2D point-and-click to 3D adventures though, but want to complete all four Broken Sword games before The Serpent's Curse is released.
Next up on our list:
The Blackwell Bundle
Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers
Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within
Gemini Rue
Resonance
Edit: in case someone was thinking of bringing it up -- I don't like Fallout 3. Tried to get into it a few times, but it just feels weird and out of place and doesn't fit in with the rest of the series. At all.
